    Advantages Advantages half the album

    Disadvantages Disadvantages .....half the album

There are things in life that irritate me to no end; whether it be the simple chore of getting up in the morning, bleary eyed and half asleep, or scrambling around in cupboards at 7am to find something to eat, knocking over item upon item until finally finding the one thing even remotely munchy, or hell, even turning on Kerrang Radio to hear the latest Franz Ferdinand tune, probably the main offender of them all. See, it's not the band themselves that I hold issue with, it's their music. I regularly hear/see the word 'fun' being passed around when referring to the Glaswegians' little ditty's; ... more

Advantages Advantages A very respectable follow up, as good as if not better than the first

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can really think of, for me it's one of the best albums this year

With the number of strong debut albums around at the moment a lot of new bands are setting themselves a hard task to follow it up. For Franz Ferdinand that was certainly going to be the case. Their debut self titled album was one of the best albums of 2004 and making something as good if not better would be incredibly hard work for the band. When they decided that only a year after the debut they would release a follow up many people, myself included, felt this was a little rushed and there was no way it could be as good. When your second album has to follow up the Mercury Award winning first ... more

    Advantages Advantages Innovative, funky, traditionalism

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Long awaited!

You Could Have It So Much Better is the second album from the bohemian, indie quartet, who are still intent on the deliverance of melodic, dance-rock. Especially to a music scene that has become somewhat lacklustre, and rough-edged, where originality has difficulty in emerging through a growing dance and R'n'B explosion, full of 80's sampling and computerised mixing. The survival of a band such as Franz Ferdinand is an achievement in itself, since their heyday came at a time when the White Stripes were an emergence, with a smasher of an album, and competition was heavy. But each group of ... more

Advantages Advantages New Different tracks, as well as the classic old style from Franz Ferdinand

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a while to enjoy and appreciate. Not as good as first album.

The success of the first album, entitled Franz Ferdinand, was groundbreaking. The group from Glasgow, UK, even found success in the most difficult market for European artists, the US. The first album was fantastic, and I personally am still quite happy to sit down and have a good listen to it one year on. All this is fantastic and great, but what about the new album, You Could Have It So Much Better. Firstly I would like to note that I purchased this album through the iTunes Music Store, as due to this cannot review the packaging, however from what I can fathom, I purchased the standard ... more

Advantages Advantages Shows another side of Franz Ferdinand

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as good as the 1st album

I have always found that a lot of groups struggle to live up to expectations when they release a second album, especially when their debut album is a success. The fans and music world at large expect something even better. Unfortunately, when you are Franz Ferdinand the pressure to live up to this expectation is one hundred times worse. After the run away success of their first album, the group went from playing at a house warming party in Edinburgh to, (literally 3 months later), topping the charts and scooping up every award that the music industry had going! An achievement that very few ... more

Advantages Advantages Even better than their first album in my opinion

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me

Franz Ferdinand released their second album You Could Have It So Much Better in 2005, only a year after their self-titled debut. In many ways it follows the formula of their first album, full of Britpop-style arty pop backed up by guitars and 80s synths. However on balance I think this album is a more varied, deeper improvement on Franz Ferdinand. Opening track The Fallen leads the way with Kaiser Chiefs style witty lyrics: “Who gives a damn about the profits of Tesco?”. With their references to the “Coney Island rollercoaster”, they show that they’ve branched out from those Brit-centric ... more

Advantages Advantages Franz Ferdinand at their best (once again)!

Disadvantages Disadvantages There's this big shade of the extremely successful first album (however, that's only slightly negative)

Advantages Advantages Good to sing and dance to, original style, great case/album cover, lots of hits

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some songs sound simliar, ends a bit weakly

Franz Ferdinand are a scottish indie rock outfit who's first alum, called 'Franz Ferdiand, was extrememly popular and oeaked at number 3 in the UK album charts. This second album was always going to have a burden of high expectations, but I believe Franz Ferdinand have pulled it off. They entered the UK charts at number 1 and even the US charts at number 8, becoming a worldwide success. A brief guide to the tracks: The Fallen Starts the album off with a bang. Some fantastic guitar riffs and sounds similar to some of thier brilliant old stuff. Good to sing along to also. Do you want to Probably ... more

Advantages Advantages a worthwhile buy, as good as the last cd

Disadvantages Disadvantages same style of music (not much of a disadvantage!)

Very much so. You will definitely still recognise this as the Franz Ferdinand you knew, but there has been plenty of expanding, in simple but gorgeous Technicolor. It is energetic, nostalgic, evil, fresh, with plenty of tempo changes, mood changes (but the negative end does not leave you unhappy) and with a nice lace-like edge of quick backwards message in the end. Lovely. And they've been listening a lot to George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass", but I myself can hear plenty of Beatles (of the older end), Kinks (the song "Fade Together") and even Del Shannon (at "Walk Away", which is ... more

Advantages Advantages Catchy and vocally very good,Masculine and definitely Indie-Rockish.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Annoying spiky, thumpy brattish music.Lyrically a bit poor and often irritating.

I could listen to indie-rock till it makes my ears bleed but something about Franz Ferdinand that just p*sses me off! Now I better just add that most people I know disagree with me on this point, so dont just listen to my opinion on this! Although I am sure they love themselves enough for me not to have to. Starting with the good points, the vocals are tuneful, sexy and masculine as one would hope from a band of their stature so that's all good. But to me the music is a bit too 'dancefloor' boppy rock and a bit too spiky. Now dont get me wrong, I am really into more serious rock and edgier ... more
