Advantages: Suberb Listening Disadvantages: A few tracks are very similar so it can get repetative

The music on the album, You've come along way baby, as mostly acid house as this is the music norman specialises in. Which is an odd mix between Funky house music and acid jazz. Funky house music is more popular in the clubs and acid jazz can often be refered to as a form of "rave" music dipped in acid to get an edge that "rocks" as a fellow clubber once said. But then he also said that "if you drink vodka shots through your nose you dont ...

Consistently stunning Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
Ryan-Simpson
Advantages: Solid consistant album Disadvantages: none
Norman’s Cook’s second album under the ‘Fat Boy Slim’ moniker was released with much commercial expectation, as the debut FBS album only gave one minor hit in ‘Everyone Needs a 303’ but after first single ‘Rockafella Skank’ hit the top five, people started to take notice. Unlike many of his contemporaries in dance / big beat Norman actually realises the importance of a memorable, catchy chorus and this ...

Mr Ball goes mainstream Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
JohnnyBravo
Advantages: the fat boy Disadvantages: couple of dodgy tracks
Norman Cook has gone back to his housemartin days with this album, he must have missed chart success of his own after remixing so many other bands in recent years. 11 tracks of sheer dance/pop..its on the cutting edge of nothing...but ultimately listenable. Some great tracks, but you'd know all about the "Praise you"'s and the "Rockerfella Skank"'s already.....do look out for track 7 and track 5 for something with a bit of bass. If you like Rockerfella ...

Advantages: Will have you jumping around Disadvantages: Not very long
Chances are you’ve heard most of the songs on this album, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a home in your collection. The album is not particularly (61min59) and has only 11 tracks, but does have the well known tracks ‘Right Here, Right Now’ (from the Addidas advert), ‘The Rockafella’s Skank’, ‘Gangsta Trippin’ and ‘Praise You’. Chances are, if you like this tracks, then you’d like the rest (even if there are only a few more).
This is definitely ...

Phatboy Slim Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
jailbreakted
Advantages: 80% of the Songs are Great Disadvantages: None
A lot of the more snooty folks in the techno/dance/electronic scene have taken to dismissing Fatboy Slim, because he's hit modern rock radio, movie soundtracks, MTV, and Billboard charts. Apparently they've decided to ignore this album in favor of more "intelligent", more underground artists.
Well, it's their loss. "The Rockafeller Skank" was the one of the singles of 1998, hands down. It's easily a classic of the big-beat genre. "Praise You" ...

Advantages: every track sounds good Disadvantages: not applicable
You've Come A Long Way Baby is a tremendous album and at the time of it's release it was a fresh new sound which everybody fell in love with. The album has a respectable 11 tracks all of which sound great and are hits within their own rite and from listening to these tracks you can also tell that cook has delved deep into his record collection and put many fantastic samples to use.
The album kick starts with the great Right Here, Right Now this ...

Not bad Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
knobbly
Advantages: Most of the songs are above average Disadvantages: If you're not a big beat or dance fan you won't like it
Mr Zoe Ball knows how to do a good tune. I'll give him that. You should be able to tell from the vast amount of singles he's managed to pull off from this, namely Praise You, Rockafellar Skank, Gangsta Trippin', Right Here Right Now. There isn't really a bad song on this album. They're all listenable for sure. If you are a fan of the big beat style you should buy this. May Fat Boy Slim continue to make more albums like this. Like most albums from ...

Advantages: Top Tunes Disadvantages: some is great to dance to BUT dull to listen to
How to judge a dance record is a moot point, since dance music is meant to be constantly changing meaning that a record made in 98 must automatically be out of date. Well I don't know whether this would still be appreciated at a club but at a party or listening on your own stereo this is still a good (but not great) record.
The songs we all know "Right hee, right now", Rockafellar Skank, gangster tripping and No#1 Praise You are all present and ...

Advantages: Some stunning dance floor grooves Disadvantages: Showing it's age a bit now
This album released in 1998 still sounds pretty good.......and come on......that's not bad going for an artist whose music is on leading edge of pop-dance. But you have to admit it, fatboy has more competition nowadays not least from the brilliant Moby album.
Whilst I loved the Fatboy album when it first came out I've got to say that quite a few of the songs seem old-hat now (eg, F**king in heaven, Kalifornia, soul surfing, you're not from Brighton)
But, ...

Advantages: GREAT SOUNDS Disadvantages: NONE
I HAVE NEVER REALLY BEEN A BIG FAN OF THE LATEST DANCE MUSIC BUT I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BUY THIS ALBUM AS IT WAS ON OFFER AT THE TIME AND I HAD ENJOYED SOME OF THE MUSIC THAT I HAD HEARD FROM FATBOY SLIM SO I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE IT A TRY. I WAS PLEASANLY SUPRISED. EACH TRACK IS VERY LONG WHICH MEANS THAT IT REALLY IS GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. EACH TRACK IS COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT AND I FOUBD THAT I COULD RECOGNISE MANY OF THE TRACKS. THE ALBUM CONTAINS ...

Norway? Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
sayman
Advantages: Right Here Disadvantages: Fatboy slim is ***** in heaven
Norman Cook is a legend! In other ways to other producers though, he is a chart dance producer, what I mean by that is in his guise as fatboy slim he doesn’t make tracks for the dance floor but for the radio and charts. Although his tunes are sometimes droped in clubs I don’t think that is what he is about. Right here right now is a classic example of chart success mixed with a ripp you up dance floor hit. A track which also became the background ...

As the big guy on the cover states on his T-Shirt on the cover "I'm Number One So Why Try Harder".
I knew a lot of the tunes before I bought the album, either from TV advertising or from the pub jukebox, so it was a must buy from the day it came out.
The Rockerfeller Skank and Praise You with the excellent Spike ("Being John Malkovic") Jonze video and the wonderful F***ing in Heaven this is another must have album from Normans mixing desk.
It's ...

cobbler
Advantages: great dance album Disadvantages: it's a dance album (!)
Fat Boy Slim aka Norman Cook became a household name after releasing "The Rockafellar Skank" and then this album. It's an absolute must for all dance fans, but that's about the limit of it's appeal.
There's little variation, but then again it's dance music and there's not supposed to be. The highlight for me is the single "Right Here Right Now", another track helping dance music to reach the masses. That's basically what this album is, a more mainstream ...

Phatboy Tunes Review ofYou've Come A Long Way Baby [PA] - Fatboy Slimby
mjc
You only have to look at the album cover to see what a hit 'You've Come A Long Way, Baby' has been. No less than 4 hits have been successes in the UK singles chart. These are 'Right Here, Right Now', 'The Rocafeller Skank' (that 'Right about now, the funk soul brother' one), 'Gangster Tripping' and 'Praise You (the one with the excellent video in the shopping centre). There is one 'naughty track' entitled 'F***ing in Heaven' which sort of repeats ...
