Having recently purchased The Beatles Anthology on DVD, which was amazing through Dolby Speakers, I decided to buy some albums aswell, having spoken to friends about the Scouse Legends best work, the album Revolver kept creeping into the conversation, I had already heard the track, Tommorow Never Knows, and I wanted to hear more of what the album offered. After listening to the album six times, I can honestly say this matches anything released today, yesterday and what the future will deliver, it is outstanding, even better when you have had a drink or twelve, simply magic and you can hear the hard work and class The Beatles had. Here is my overall view of each track:
1.Taxman- George Harrisons song, a nifty 2 minute singalong about them annoying tax people, taxing your car, heating and everything. It has a good tune,a cross between Hindu and Rock, and Harrison is good on vocals, an excellent and witty start. 8/10
2.Elenaor Rigby - Paul McCartney's wonderful and beautifully played song which gets that fear of being lonely inside you but lifts the hairs on the back your neck with its sheer strength and power.9/10
3.I'm Only Sleeping - This is where John Lennon begins his chapter of brilliant songs on this album. I adore this track for its simple lyrics about drifting your life away in bed while others live their lives. I love the little indian Sitar instrument playing in the background. Superb. 9/10
4.Love You To - One of my favourite Harrison tracks, a track that makes the listener think they are in a dream, meditating in India, with a neck tingling build up and amazing instrumental via the excellent Sitar sounds. 9/10
5.Here, There, And Everywhere - A gorgeous song, beautifully written, wonderfully sang by McCartney, and fits perfectly into the album. 10/10
6.Yellow Submarine - We must of all heard this track before, I find this one to be the weakest of the album, performed by Ringo Starr, it reminds of a jolly knees up after ten pints in the local pub. 7/10
7.She Said, she said - Lennon, who admitted this was a sort of drug song, is classic on vocals and meets the standards of the album with ease. 9/10
8.Good Day Sunshine - A confidence building kind of track performed by McCartney. A jolly little tune with some nice lyrics. 9/10
9.And Your Bird Can Sing - Lennon gives us another fabulous song that bounces along nicely. 9/10
10.For No One - Oasis should have listened to this superb track many times if they wanted to be at least half as decent as the scousers, on evidence they didn't as this song is one which stands up against anything released today with ease. McCartney is again outstanding. 10/10
11.Dr.Robert - Lennon sings again on this short track which in all honestly, is about a supplier of some of that wacky, tripping stuff they took in the 60's. Still a good tune though . 8/10
12. I Want To Tell You - Harrison on lead vocals in the least best track of the three he penned for this album. Still a good guitar sound to it. 8/10
13.Got to get you into my Life - My least favourite of McCartneys records on the album, a decent standard rock'n'roll number but nothing more. 7/10
14.Tommorow Never Knows - AMAZING !! Track of the album for me. The lyrics, the weird sounds mixed with the pounding drums and sitar are brilliant and you can tell this influenced the likes of The Chemical Brothers. The lyrics "Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream" are exactly how I felt when I first experienced drugs. Lennon is truely top quality on this track and it influenced so many bands its unreal. 10/10
This album was really the first studio album by the fab four, experimenting in all types of ways, and the whole sound proves what a shame the beatles split up when they did as it makes you wonder how many more hits they could of give to the world. If you are a fan of The Beatles, or any music, you must try this album, it is one of the best ever made.

I've still got this on vinyl somewhere. I think it was the first Beatles album I ever heard. Sara X

For a minute there I read "Tomorrow never comes" not "Tomorrow never knows" and thought we were talking about Ronan Keating (aarghh) (actually, don't tell anyone but I really liked "life is a rollercoaster"!) Sorry, off topic! Classy op, but of course you're preaching to the converted! My fave is "and your bird can sing".
