Finally George gets to spread his wings and become a songwriter with 3 songs written..
The first, Taxman, is probably the best... Followed by the classic Elenor Rigby. This song needs a string orchestra. It's a great idea, and the first song released where none of them played on it...
I'm Only Sleeping is one of John's best which features backwards guitars. They go insane at the end.
Love You To is George's first Indian song. It begins with an almost too lengthy sitar solo, and livens up for the lyrics. The accelerando at the end is great, but a larger one would have been nicer.
Here, There, and Everywhere is a nice song sung beautifully by Paul..
Then comes Yellow Submarine which spawned an entire album and that classic movie...
Highlights: The band at the end of verse 2; John and Paul yelling out shipping commands; Whoever it is who yells out after Ringo sings in the last verse...
She Said, She Said is a good John song which goes into 3/4 in the middle section.
Good Day Sunshine is probably Paul's best (If not Got to Get You Into My Life and For No One). It's a feel good song. The fadeout is interesting because of the echos and the recently changed key.
And Your Bird Can Sing is alright. The guitar duet is interesting.
For No One deserves more air time and recognition. It is a great song and features a French Horn solo. It is strange because it is entirely in 2nd person. The ending is great. It quickly fades away before you realize it is over.
The next song offers an argument for those who say the flow of the Beatles songs was great on Revolver. Dr. Robert completely shatters the mood of For No One. The only interesting part is how it both fades out and has a definite ending.
George's final song, I Want To Tell You, is similar in style to his songs on Rubber Soul. The piano part becomes disgusting, but after listening to it a number of times, it is not too bad.
Got to Get You Into My Life almost sounds like something from Paul's solo career. It uses a whole bunch of brass. Listen for the trumpet to go really high just as the piece fades out.
Also, did you know that the song "Tomorrow Never Knows" was quotes that John Lennon got from The Book of the Dead, the book of the dead was written when the Nile ran red with blood. The lyrics of this song symbolize what Heaven feels and looks like entering it.
Tomorrow Never Knows is the absolute highlight of the album. It is the undisputed king of all beatle songs. Nothing comes close to the genuis of John Lennon who 40 years ago dared to experiment with tape loops on a primitive Four track, to produce a masterpiece that was lightyears ahead of its time.
Hail Tommorrow never knows. Hail the Beatles. Hail Revolver,an absoulty fantastic album...
They WILL Live Forever......
