Advantages: Complex and fun Disadvantages: Hard to learn
The thing I like most about chess is the name they give to the best players - Grand Masters, Haha, I would love to be a Grand Master. Unfortunately, despite playing chess since I was 7, I am not very good. You have it or you don't. I kind of do.
The Game
We have a board of 64 squares, alternately black and white. Each player has 16 pieces, which do different things. You line up your pieces in rows, 8 on the row nearest to you, and 8 in front of them. The row nearest to you goes like this - Rook, Knight, Bishop, King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook (but the Queen always goes on her own colour, so the King and Queen may be the other way round). Then in front of each of those pieces there is a pawn. And what do these pieces do? OK, here we go
Rook - can move up and across the board for as many places as you want - unless another piece ...

Advantages: it passes the time Disadvantages: I find it a bit on the dull side and I don't enjoy it much.
I first learned chess as a child - taught by my father, who as far as I can make out is a pretty good player. I played all the way through school, and was ... passable, never good. I find this game enormously frustrating and to be honest, I don't even like it much. I'm sure I'm not alone, so, anyone else out there who can't play, don't let it make you feel like some sort of intellectual misfit.
Chess works best when the players are of equal apptitude and think in much the same way. I've played with people who are about as good as I am - who can put together a strategy lasting three or four moves, can feint, and disguise attacks a little, and that works just fine. I find playing with people who have been taught is just horrible, (and yes, i do always lose, i generally play to see how long iI can last.)
I married someone who has ...

Advantages: Actually two products in one - fantastic value for money Disadvantages: Bulkier than some travel booster seats but worth it!
(a.k.a. The Fold and Go Booster Seat)
Silver Winner of the Mother & Baby Best Travel Item 2005/6
I kind of bought this product in error! Well, if I'm honest my brother-in-law bought it for us but I told him where to find it. While pregnant with my daughter, I began to pay attention to all the gadgets and gizmos my friends with children had so I could be one step ahead of the game (ha ha - who was I kidding!?!). I noticed that one of my friends had an inflatable travel seat ('the first years' On-the-go Booster Seat) which she used in restaurants and when visiting friends. It was quite small when folded up (approx 15 cm square by 6 cm deep), which appealed to me as I am always looking for space saving products. It was good but I was not entirely convinced that it was robust enough. Also, it was really hard to clean and always ...

Album Notes
One of the great things about Bo Diddley, something that often goes unmentioned, is that he was a home-recording pioneer, building his own studio years before any other rocker. The full fruits of this labor can be heard on RIDE ON: THE CHESS MASTERS VOL. 3, 1960-1961, Hip-O Select's third installment in their complete Bo Chess/Checker masters and easily the weirdest set yet. All 54 songs here were recorded over the course of 13 months: a whopping 17 them have never been released (an additional seven have never seen release in the U.S.), every one of them was cut in his home studio in Washington DC, and not a one reached the charts. That lack of commercial success should in no way be seen as an indication that the music on RIDE ON is subpar--odd and messy, yes, but the music here is fueled by a mad genius that could only have flourished in a hothouse setting like a personal home studio. Much of this music was heard on the classic LPs BO DIDDLEY IS A GUNSLINGER and BO DIDDLEY IS A LOVER, but in many ways the way to hear it is on this wild, wooly complete compilation, where all the flights of fancy sit next to the big, booming rockers, and where the variety proves Bo to be the visionary he is.
