I remember back to primary school, when i was aged 10. We were told to name our heroes. My friend lifted his hand and called out Bart Simpson. Some other kid said the Thundercats, and someone else said Jesus. A bit shy, I didn't call out anything. But in my head, I was thinking of only one, the master, Groucho Marx.

Who would have thought there would be a connection between this album title & the Hollywood legend Groucho Marx of the famous MarxBrothers fame, but there is.
In 1972 when Elton John & his lyricist Bernie Taupin were invited to a friends house to see a private screening of a MarxBrothers movie, unknown to them Groucho Marx was in the audience. When they met up Groucho insisted on calling Elton John, John Elton as he thought his name was back to front. He held up his index fingers like a gun to Elton & during the banter Elton held up his arms in mock surrender & said to Marx ?Don?t Shoot Me I?m Only the Piano Player?, the title stuck in his mind & the next album got the same title.

The Communist Manifesto was initially published in 1848 (in London), although the text was originally in German. The first English translation was created in 1850.
