Advantages: Full of humour and pathos Disadvantages: You may need Northern humour to appreciate it
I have an affinity with Willy Russell as he was born in the same hospital as me In Whiston !!! I also saw one of his earlier plays about the Beatles (John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert) in The Everyman Theatre in Liverpool.
It is hard to say which of his plays he is best known for - personally I would say 'Blood Brothers' but others may go for 'Educating Rita' or 'Shirley Valentine'.
It is very hard to choose as all his work is full of his wonderful 'scouse' wit.
Russell's works so far have been :-
*Keep Your Eyes Down on the road (play 1971)
*Sam O'Shanker (Play 1972, musical 1973)
*Blind Scouse (1972)
*John, Paul, George, Ringo ...and Bert (musical 1974)
*Death of a Young Man (play 1974)
*Breezeblock Park (play 1975)
*Our Day Out (made-for-TV film 1976, musical stage version, 1983)
*One for the Road (play ...
Advantages: Fun, Sassy, Entertaining and Real. Disadvantages: None.
I had a shortage of books to read before Christmas and my train journeys to and from work were getting very boring indeed. Imagine my delight then when I opened up all of my presents and there lying among them was a Belinda Jones novel. As you may know Belinda Jones is one of my favourite girly authors who provide the reader with some extremely fun and most of the time wacky reading. I finished this book this morning so I thought I would share with you all just how brilliant 'On the Road to Mr Right is'.
-----
So what is the book about?
(Reading from the back of the book)
Belinda loves America. Her best friend Emily loves men. So when they decide its time to shake up their lives, they combine their two greatest passions in a fantastic road trip taking them from Eden to Valentine - via Climax - in pursuit of the American dream ...
Advantages: One or Two Good Songs! Disadvantages: Boring , Weak Tracks
If I'm honest , I don't understand how Leon managed to get to the live shows of the X Factor , never mind win the competition. I was positive that Rhydian would be the one taking the crown, but of course it was Leon that won the one million pound record deal. So a year on (nearly) , and Leon is back with his debut album. I liked his debut single 'When You Believe' but I didn't really like him , although when I heard he had a new album out , I didn't exactly rush out to buy it , but I was slightly curious about whether or not it would be as a big a hit as Leona Lewis' 'Spirit'. So when my friend (who is quite a big fan) told me she had bought his album and loved it , I asked her if I could borrow it to see if I thought the same.
* Who Is Leon Jackson ? *
Well as I have already mentioned Leon won the fourth series of the British talent ...

Album Notes
Personnel include: Kathy Mattea (vocals, acoustic guitar, whistle, percussion); Bill Cooley (acoustic guitar); Eamonn O'Rourke (mandolin, fiddle); Paul Martin (accordion, background vocals); Randy Leago (accordion); Carson Whitsett (piano, organ); Rick Blackwell (bass guitar); Jim Brock (drums, cajon drums, percussion); Jim Hoke, Suzy Bogguss (background vocals). Having long transcended her country music roots, Kathy Mattea explores further afield in this folk- and world music-flavored set. Mattea has made a career out of a single-minded pursuit of her own muse, and here, just for the heck of it, she includes a bluegrass-tinged Stones cover in "Gimme Shelter," as well as John Fogerty's "Down on the Corner," done to a swaying New Orleans shuffle, and the old gospel standard "Wade in the Water." With the rest of the album consisting of well-chosen songs by her contemporaries (and one original, the simply arranged, beautiful "Give it Away"), RIGHT OUT OF NOWHERE further consolidates Mattea's reputation as a talented and eclectic artist.
Album Reviews
Dirty Linen (p.46) - "This album is a graceful, thoughtful, at times bittersweet, at times funny, at times painful reflection of what's been on her mind, in songs she's written herself and a handful of well-chosen covers."
