Advantages: great location, cheap, nice rooms, excellent food Disadvantages: no parking, quite dated
Introduction to the hotel:
The Royal Albion Hotel was built in 1826 and is situated in a fantastic location opposite Brighton pier. It is a three star hotel and has 186 guest rooms offering views of Brighton beach or the town centre.
My experience of the hotel:
I spent one night in the hotel in January of this year and for a three star hotel I was quite impressed. I and my girlfriend booked a double room for £55 and it was a spacious room with a four poster bed, couch, satellite television, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely modern bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. When we checked in the hotel staff asked us if we would like to upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi batch for £10, we said no, but were a bit intrigued to find one anyways - they had obviously given our room away and were trying to get the extra £10 out ...
Advantages: Beautifully written. Engaging. Enlightening. Thought provoking. Universal appeal. Disadvantages: Sad bits, but what would a book be without them?
Chaim Potok is one of my very favourite authors. His books tend to become 'friends'. This novel is no different. Davita is a little Jewish girl, living in New York in the 1930s. She moves house a great deal largely as her parents are politically active. Potok describes our tough world, and that complex time, through her young, sensitive, eyes beautifully. The story is engaging and in reading this book I felt I was privvy to a very special secret.
One of the very few constants in her life is the 'door harp' which hangs on the front door of every house she has lived in. This little harp plays gentle melodies every time the door is opened and closed. I wonder, in life, without some constants, do we become lost?
Davita explores her own security-of-being through books; with the exploration of Jewish religous teachings and practices ...
Advantages: Lightning seeds with techno sounds Disadvantages: Not their best effort
sounding out of place also sounds brilliant, the over-all flow and style make this one of the albums best songs. 9/10
The final song on the album is "The life of Riley (remix)" which starts identically to the opening track, and seems to be very slightly different in musical arrangement, the vocals kicking in later than the original, with more echo than the original. I've never been able to work out why this track is here as it brings nothing new to the album. So it can have the same mark as the first track. 8/10 ...
