sounds and Simon Le Bon's uninflected vocals, the misty ballads "Lonely in Your Nightmare" and "Save a Prayer" can still pull heavily on your heartstrings. With the dance-oriented singles "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", you lighten up a bit, but the songs are far from airy or whimsical. One anomaly in this release, though, is the inappropriate prominence of John Taylor's bass lines. In every song, it sounds as if he is mixed more in expectation of a solo than as an integral part of the rhythm section. Ignore this technical distraction, however, and you'll enjoy rediscovering this gorgeous body of water-coloured synthpop.--Beth Bessmer

In the decade of decadence, Duran Duran knew how to live the life. It was reflected in ... more
their videos (sailboats, silly white hats, tropical surroundings, grease-painted feral women) and garishly displayed in their public lifestyles. But if you can remove these connotations from the album that started it all, you will be left with music that is anything but gaudy. For the most part, Rio is an eerie and sumptuous record. With their raspy, arpeggio synth sounds and Simon Le Bon's uninflected vocals, the misty ballads "Lonely in Your Nightmare" and "Save a Prayer" can still tear your heart right out of your chest and abandon it bleeding on a rain- soaked, cobblestone street. With the dance-oriented singles "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", you dry out a bit, but the songs are far from airy or whimsical. "The Reflex" opens with one of the best bass-fuelled intros ever, remaining more in the dance-pop arena than the rest of the album. Lyrically, the song contains one of the most memorable Duran Duran lines of all time, "Fl-Fl-Fl-Fl-Flex", which is reason enough to buy the whole stable. "Union of the Snake" is a mix of male ritual, slithering synths and big bad beats. Along with their first two albums, Seven & the Ragged Tiger is necessary to effectively complete the early Duran Duran experience. Interesting haircuts remain optional. --Steve Gdula

Advantages: One of the best albums ever Disadvantages: None
I am reviewing DuranDuran's CD RIO
A few people have already reviewed this album, but as I have all of DuranDurans albums I will be doing a few of them on here and it's now time to review my favourite one ??
To me Rio is the best ever DuranDuran album, every song on this is a masterpiece and sounds as fresh as it did when it was made and released in 1982.
The song "Rio" became a number one hit straight away after it's release and it proved that even though the band had only been going for a year they were well established and had thousands of fans.
"Rio" really did have it all and the band brought out their best album ever in their history and making it one of the most successful albums in history.
The other songs released from this album were, "Hungry like the Wolf" and "My own way" at that particular time.

Advantages: Excellent price for CD and DVD package Disadvantages: DVD could have lasted a bit longer
As I have been reviewing some of DuranDurans albums on here I thought I should tell all of you about this one.
Astronaut is the bands newest release from last year that have now had a few hits from. You may remember that Reach up for the Sunrise made it to the top ten with a good beat and everybody waving their arms into the sky "Reach up for the sunrise". Some of the other hits include "taste the Summer" which recently a Supermarket chain aquired as it was a catchy tune to list their products to !
This album proves that DuranDuran are still as good today as they were back in the early 80's.
If you do not remember their music that well from the 80's it was roughly the same time that Spandau Ballet were around and in some ways the songs were slightly similar but DuranDuran had a faster pace to them, also Soft Cell started out ...
Advantages: fantastic album Disadvantages: not enough tracks
What more can you say about this fantastic album. This is DuranDuran,s 2nd album. Its got everything on it and a whole range of songs. From pop to rock to slow. Shows the guys at their best and a lovely looking album cover too. I got bought this album when I was 10 years old and I have been a huge fan every since. Everything Duran does is great. They made some great videos for this album too which even today are well known. Rio and Save a prayer. I recently saw the guys play in Birmingham and the songs are timeless. Some of my personal favourites off the album are Lonley in your nightmear, Hold back the rain, the chauffeur. This is defently a must have album for anyone new discovering the joys of DuranDuran. IN 2001 they remastered the cd and it now has videos to watch on the disc. This album defently sounds a lot different in style to ...

Album Notes
This is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files, including the videos for "Rio," "Hungry Like The Wolf" and "Save A Prayer." Duran Duran: Simon Le Bon (vocals); Andy Taylor (guitar); Nick Rhodes (keyboards); John Taylor (bass); Roger Taylor (drums). Additional personnel: Andy Hamilton (saxophone). Recorded at Air, London, England in 1982. Includes liner notes by Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes. Digitally remastered by Tony Cousins. The artistic progression from the band's self-titled debut to the following year's RIO was the greatest aesthetic leap of Duran Duran's career. The group moved from catchy but somewhat rudimentary New Romantic synth-funk to elegantly arranged, sophisticated pop-rock, concentrating more on song structure than dance beats. For their efforts, they were rewarded with superstar status, due chiefly to "Hungry Like the Wolf," a lascivious tune that injects a welcome dose of rock & roll guitar. The most impressive tracks on RIO, though, are the more contemplative, balladic offerings, like "Lonely in Your Nightmare," "Save a Prayer," and especially "The Chauffer," with its stream-of-consciousness lyrics and unconventional structure, arty without seeming pretentious. If you only have one Duran Duran album, it should be RIO.
