I first discovered their music about half a year ago in the strangest of places. I was at a friend's house and we were playing Rock Band on the Xbox 360, which is the game involving a microphone, bass, guitar and drums whereby each player takes an instrument and tries to perform the songs by hitting, pressing and strumming, etc the coloured buttons on the instruments at the right time by following what they see on screen. The person holding the microphone would just need to sing but he/she would need to sing in tune, but anyway, whilst playing this game, I came across the song crushcrushcrush, which I really liked the sound of so proceeded to download it the next day as well as look up videos of the band on YouTube. After finding another song I really liked, I decided to buy both their albums (who said music downloaded for free was always bad for the industry?). Riot! is their second album.
MY OPINION OF THE MUSIC
My favourite tracks are crushcrushcrush and Misery Business, and that's mainly because they have a very upbeat rhythm to them. I find that I can listen to these songs repeatedly without getting bored after a while unlike a lot of pop songs in the chart nowadays.
Crushcrushcrush is about having a crush on someone and is a very punchy song, which has some nice lyrics. I like the guitar play in this song as it sounds amazing throughout but particularly during the short bursts of solo guitar play, as I find it catchy every time.
Misery Business is a very fast paced song about a girl finally getting the guy she likes, after eight months, and how the guy's ex is a whor...err....not a very nice person. It begins with some sort low volume, Mexican, instrumental introduction, which I'm not particularly keen on and would rather they skipped but this is only about five seconds and once the song begins, it sounds great with very impressive and strong guitar and drum play. It's the fastest paced song on the album and is executed very well. The song sort of reminds me of Avril Lavigne's but with much stronger vocals but more mature.
'Fences' is another song I quite like and the instrumentals remind of jazz but with quite a bouncy and bass-y rhythm. I think the rest of the songs range from okay to good and most aren't quite as catchy but I'm happy to listen to most of them. There is one slower song called 'We are Broken', which is quite mellow and I think it's okay but again, I'd need to be quite relaxed and is something that I wouldn't' mind listening to whilst in a coffee shop or somewhere with a similar atmosphere.
However, there are songs such as Hallelujah (no, not the one by Alexandra Burke from Britain's got Talent) and Miracle, which just don't do anything for me and I normally just skip those so it's not all great (for me at least).
CD PRESENTATION
The front cover doubles as a sort of fold out booklet and it's printed on a glossy paper but it is done in a very interesting way where by the word "RIOT!" appears to be scribbled, doodled, and drawn all over the place, with it completely covering the front cover. Everything else is presented in a handwritten manor and it's in various orientations. I think this is very different to what you'd normally find but I do like it and think it suits this album, particularly because of the title of the album. It consists of mostly black writing and doodles but the larger versions title are and other things they emphasize such as headings for the credits and the band's website and MySpace page are in a orangey red colour are pictures of the band in black and white, which I think looks pretty good. Same scheme is used by the back cover along with a group photo of the band.
What I also find particularly interesting is how the lyrics for four of the songs are presented on the other side. The lyrics for 'That's what you get', 'Misery Business', 'For a Pessimist I'm Pretty Optimistic' and 'Let the Flames Begin' are on this side with white text on a black background accompanied by a picture of each of the four band members for each song. First song presented with the 'handwritten' text along with doodles followed by the lyrics for 'Misery Business' on the next section but I need to rotate the page 90 degrees clockwise to start reading these lyrics, and then 90 degrees counter clockwise for verse two, then 90 degrees counter clockwise for the next song and finally 90 degrees counter clockwise again for the last song, which means I'm holding the page upside down from when I first started. Some might describe it as a mess but obviously, it was on purpose and I think it's very clever and presented very nicely. However, on the down side, there are only lyrics for four out of the eleven songs but that's a minor niggle.
BUYING
I bought my copy from Amazon for £4.98 (used a voucher so got it for free effectively), however, it's currently priced at £8.98 on there, £9.95 on Play.com and £9.99 on the HMV site so it may be worth searching and bidding on eBay for it or buying the MP3 album. One can also listen to samples on the HMV website for each song on the album in the Track Listings for the album.
VERDICT
Not all the tracks are my cup of tea but there are some excellent songs and many good songs in the album, some of which I need to hear a few times before they grow on me. I think Hayley Williams is an amazing vocalist and this isn't because of enhancements done in a sound studio (I've watched live-performances on YouTube to find that she's just as good when performing acoustic versions of the songs and with a live audience). I feel that she manages to inject a lot of emotion into the songs, which is something that a lot of singers are unable to achieve without the help of technology. The instrumentals are also excellent and there's a good variety of different tempos and instrumentals throughout the album. Many people may not have heard of them and despite not being as popular and well known as a lot of other artists, Paramore are extremely talented and I definitely recommend this album. I think it's better than their first album so more reason to get it.
Thanks for reading!

Advantages: An excellent album from a powerful female fronted band. Disadvantages: Not a fan of female vocals? Stay well away.
2004 was the year that Paramore formed, the year later they released their début album 'All We Know Is Falling' through Fueled By Ramen records, and then their second album 'Riot!' appeared on the scene in 2007. 'Riot!' was recorded in New Jersey with the producer David Bendeth, an eleven track offering of utmost excellence. Paramore have come a long way as a band in their few years and this has to be seen as in no small part down to their gifted ... ...of power and emotion in her voice, she conveys these qualities with great eloquence when she sings making Paramore a true force to be reckoned with.
The album begins with 'For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic', a great title for a track; that's for sure. It starts the album brilliantly, kicks it off with real heartfelt vigour and always it goes down well with me. Right from the opening guitar riff you know that this one is going to be something ...

Advantages: Excellent songcraft, some emo classics. Disadvantages: Not for haters of 'emo', some over familiar standards.
Paramore are a band who are there to be knocked down. Signed to Pete Wentz's label Decaydance, a part of Fueled By Ramen, who are responsible for throwing out a large number of emo bands dominating the independent and mainstream charts at the moment, for example Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy. Paramore are also essentially an emo band in the meaning of the word, creating loud, powerful pop-punk music for the charts and fans of pop music.
Yet ... ...full of horrendously catchy tunes, and have an excellent, charismatic frontwoman in the form of 17/18 year old Hayley Williams. She provides a strong, confident voice to make the songs reach higher levels which puts them ahead of a lot of their peers, and have overcome obstacles that have caused other emo bands to stumble.
And so the album begins. Starting with 'For A Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic', a typical emo song title. The song begins loud, ...

Advantages: Everything about it to be honest. Disadvantages: Not much really.
I've been quite a big fan of paramore for well over a year, before the whole supposed 'emo' craze was about and personally they're more rock/pop than 'emo'.
I think that they should be encouraged as a rock band especially as there are not enough female singers around in that genre of music. Just because hayley's a girl and tends to write more meaningful songs doesn't necessarily mean they should be classed as that.
Anyway! Now thats off my chest...
... ...all we know is falling, they also had some outstanding and to this day amazing song's but there were a few too many weak links. In Riot, for me, there is only one weak link which is a pretty damn good achievment for a teenage rock band. ( More on that later)
-The album opens with 'For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optomistic'. When I listened to the whole album for the first time, this was my favourite. It shows off Hayley's voice amazingly and has a ...

This has a consistent amazing beat and an awesome rhythm and the vocals are absolutely mind-blowing. Lyrics are great to sing along to so easy to memorize it took me two listens of the song to remember them.
That's what you get 3:40
Again amazing vocals and lyrics Hayley Williams (vocalist) has to be the best female singer by FAR! I've also been told this band are good ... ...is the thing that makes this song what it is because if you take the beat away this song would be crap.

This Track has a brilliant rhythm and tempo. Vocals again are brilliant and consistent great choice of lyrics.
Easy to memorize. The vocals are slow(ish) which makes the song even greater.

Advantages: great new sound, great to dance to. Disadvantages: too little from the boys
I got this album after listening to misery business and loving what i heard. It has lots of different elements that work well together. The band have finally found their niche for their album. Their last album was too mixed and i found myself getting bored very easily. On this album there are 11 very powerful songs.
For a pessimist I'm pretty optimistic opens the album to loud funky guitars that don't sound pessimistic at all.
That's what you get ... ...between the head and the heart and what happens when the heart wins.
Hallelujah is a quite slow song but still full of screechy guitars and loud drums. The band is a christian band and this song is full of religious imagery such as doves and eternity.
Misery business is a punky jumpy song that you just want to dance to. It is about a battle between the popular and not so popular people for the perfect guy.
When it rains is a slow ballad which ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Riot - Paramore"
Advantages: the great vocal because she is girl Disadvantages: none
"Riot!" Paramore's second full-length on Fuel By Ramen (a label becoming notorious for producing "the next big thing") is a pop-rock rollercoaster yet Paramore in their attempts to grow have seemingly regressed. The genuineness seen on the first album shines through in only glimpses on "Riot!". Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to pigeonhole a band to a specific genre nor do I condemn bands for trying to have their music reach a larger audience. It's just that sometimes in that quest to branch out, a band losses some of their original appeal. "Riot!" may propel people's awareness of Paramore but like all decisions there will be costs to receive the desired benefits.
Admittedly, "Riot!" is catchy as hell. The songs (like all attractive pop songs) forcefully invade your brain and linger. Williams' vocals are still powerful ...
Advantages: the bands really into it and they play professionally Disadvantages: i think none
they're still on the run keeping the riot alive for all of they're fans,,i enjoyed watching this DVD of specially the scenes that they are really hanging out with all the fans. they have the greatest fans of all. the fans really have a great respect in them because when the band is tired of playing , they will tell them to take a rest first. the last part was awesome when they played misery business .the audience was like headbanging, dancing and singing along with Hayley. you will really enjoy this DVD and will definitely be in the final riot spirit. they have also a new member in the tour. He plays the guitar and his name is Taylor york. Hayley is very pretty pretty awesome cute when she sings in with the fans. ...
Advantages: their ages, vocals, lyrics, their live performance Disadvantages: could be too much of a thoughtful album for some
Paramore are more known for bursting on to the music scene with 'RIOT!' their sophomore album. All We Know Is Falling is persistently overlooked by newer fans. But what 'RIOT!' is lacking, 'AWKIF' has plenty!
Released in 2005, the album was something a lot of teenagers were looking for. Not quite pop and hardly reaching death metal, AWKIF falls closer to pop/rock. Paramore being teenagers themselves when they wrote and recorded this album so what you wouldn't expect is the striking lyrics that Hayley (lead vocals/keyboard) and Josh (lead guitar/backing vocals) co-wrote. A lot of people would think this album was verging on emotional rock. Yes it is emotional, but it doesn't get to the point that Paramore are whinging about life.
The album, written about Jeremy (bass) leaving the band shows great enthusiasm coming from Paramore ...
Includes videos: "Misery Business" Directed By Shane Drake Will Be Ready Early May. Paramore: Haley Williams (vocals); Josh Farro (guitar); Jeremy Davis (bass instrument); Zac Farro (drums). Snatched up by Atlantic after their Fueled by Ramen debut, Paramore rises to the challenge of playing in the big leagues with their 2007 sophomore effort, RIOT. Mining a familiar vein of punk-pop with emo overtones, Paramore isn't always original, but they make up for it with tunes, fire, and the youthful enthusiasm of lead singer Hayley Williams. The band also benefits from big-league production, making RIOT rock with sparkle and crunch, and giving Parmore a leg up on their punk-pop contemporaries.

Kerrang (Magazine) (pp.46-47) - "There's big, bristling vocal melodies aplenty and clean, grooving guitars that you'll need a scalpel to remove from your frontal lobe."
