...of the lyrics are a gobbledeegook of latin ,Gaelic, made up words and the odd english phrase thrown in to confuse us.How it works I do not know but it does and nowhere is this more obvious than on the beautifully atmospheric 'Heaven Or Las Vegas' their most commercially successful album. Tracks 1 Cherry Coloured Funk 2 Pitch The Baby 3 Iceblink Luck 4 Fifty Fifty Clown 5 Heaven Or Las Vegas 6 I Wear Your Ring 7 Fotzepolitic 8 Wolf In The Breast 9 Road River And Rail 10 Frou Frou Foxes In The Midsummer Fires 'Cherry Coloured Funk' and 'Pitch The Baby' are typical Cocteau songs.Plodding bass and treated guitar sounding psychedelic with Frasers vocals swooping and soaring throughout the arrangements.'Iceblink Luck' is a favourite rightly so among fans.It has a more recognisable song hook is up beat for a Cocteau song and even... ...Another little break in my exams, another chance to write a review... ‘Hot Rail’, released back in 2000, is the third proper album by Arizona’s Calexico. Centred around the American duo of Joey Burns (vocals, guitar, bass, cello and other instruments) and John Convertino (drums, marimba, percussion, accordion and others), they produce a type of music that blends the cultures of both sides of the Mexican border. With the help of numerous extra musicians, they skilfully blend together many different musical styles including rock, country, jazz and mariachi to form a sound unique to themselves. This album mostly concentrates on the more Hispanic elements of their music. Spanish guitar is prevalent throughout and so are Mexican mariachi horns.
