Led Zeppelin: immortal rockstars
Advantages: Heart stopping music from the masters Disadvantages: still, they missed some gems :Moby Dick? When the Levee Breaks?
These are the remasters of from the tapes recorded so many years ago produced by Jimmy Page. Now, he has awoken the the spirit and pure energy of the band Led Zeppelin and they are back with avengence with this wonderful compilation through the first and second half of their truly stunning career. From the amazingly powerful blues-rock of their first album to the beautiful and imaginative folk echoing through albums 3 and 4 and the epic scale of ... ...ending years as a band. From John Bonham's drumming to rock the very gates of Hell, followed closely by John Paul Jones' oh so funky and rocking basslines, to Jimmy Page's unnaturally superhuman guitar riffs and solos that lifts him to the status of godly, and Robert Plant's Banshee voice that sounds so wickedly brilliant. This has awoken their unrivalled past and has trully lifted their music up to the gods-absolutely outstanding. This can only have ...

Your arse in a sling
Advantages: sweeping the exhilarated and light-headed listener Disadvantages: Not for everybody
...in Canada and America. . Under The Table And Dreaming was the first album I heard, many years ago whilst living in America. I was hooked ever since. This one simply is the classic and the best. The mixture of rock, pop intertwined with sax and flute playing is superb, and Dave's vocal's just mind blowing. The lyrics are touching, and the emotion behind the singing great. For anyone who's only heard the single The Space Between and wants to hear more ... ...you to the king of music.Rock on DMB! With popcorn acoustic guitars, trampoline fiddles, bumper-car bass lines, and caramel-coated sax, the Dave Matthews Band's major-label debut is like an evening at the fair.
"The Best of What's Around" and "What Would You Say" swirl like the amusement-park ride on the album's cover, sweeping the exhilarated and light-headed listener higher as the ride spins faster. "Satellite" glides breezily like the prettiest ...

One Misty Moisty Morning
Advantages: Great variety of songs, enough tracks to keep anybody occupied for some time. Disadvantages: Slightly genre-specific, I suppose.
What is there to say about Steeleye Span to the unacquainted? The immediate comparison that leaps to mind is to the contemporary British folk-group, Fairport Convention, but it is unlikely that many of Fairport's fans will have managed to miss out on Steeleye altogether, and they, too, have faded rather into obscurity, rendering the comparison quite useless. Therefore, to start from the beginning:
Steeleye Span are one of those groups who don't ... ...more than two albums at a time. That said, the thing about Steeleye is that it doesn't matter what incarnation of the band you are listening to, they are *always good*. My RealOne Player informs me that they fit into the category of 'folk-rock', but with the exception of a few songs - such as the techno-enhanced Thomas The Rhymer - I would say that the emphasis is a great deal more on the folk. Over the years, Steeleye Span have recorded an incredible ...

~~The John Lennon Anthology Boxed Set~~
Coming off the back of the Beatles Anthology collection, it follows in a very similar vein. These collections seem to becoming more popular these days in music with more such ones being released.
What these such ‘Anthologies’ consist of is a mostly chronological collection of previously unreleased tracks of live performances, home recordings, demos, early takes, speech tracks and alternative and ... ...Anthology is no different
~~Details~~
This set consists of 94 tracks on 4 CD's, a booklet and a nice box to keep them in. However at £34.99 which I think was what I paid for it when it was released in ‘98, you might find it a little to expensive, but not to worry as there was a single CD album called "Wonsaponatime", released at the same time which has selected tracks from the anthology. As I’ve said it made up of live recordings, demo’s, early ...

Welcome to the treasure chest
Advantages: Amazing collection from an amazing talent Disadvantages: Some singles still left out - it could have been a triple CD
Roy Wood has had a chequered career, and to a younger generation the name may not mean much. To sum up briefly, he was/is leader of The Move, ELO (briefly), Wizzard, solo performer, multi-instrumentalist who can impersonate any vocalist at the drop of a mic, ace songwriter and currently frontman (Captain?) of Roy Wood's Army. This 2-CD retrospective leaves out the hits he had with the above-named groups, but still reveals him as a man of many faces ... ...originally issued on eight labels start with the clever novelty "When Gran'ma Plays the Banjo" (John Fogerty meets Ray Stevens with bluegrass 'jo), the haunting 1973 hit "Dear Elaine" which features lute, cello and recorder, its follow-up "Forever", inspired by Neil Sedaka and the Beach Boys, and the amazing Scottish reggae song "Goin' Down the Road" on which he plays (uses?) mandolin, bagpipes, farmyard poultry and a two-tone car horn. What else? ...
