Advantages: A fine work by the Deathstars Disadvantages: Perhaps a little formulaic
Deathstars are a Swedish five-piece metal band. Apparently they are of the "industrial metal" sub-genre, but I would definitely say that they are up the "pop" end of industrial music. That's how I feel about their albums so far, anyway-- I only got this new one yesterday and this is is my first formal listen-through. So I may be surprised. But up to this point, I'd be tempted to call their music something like "glam-pop-industrial". The band's members ... ...Industries - guitars and keyboards Skinny Disco - bass and backing vocals Bone W. Machine - drums This is the band's third album, following on from Synthetic Generation (2003) and Termination Bliss (2006). Both of which were excellent. Deathstars have a distinctive and consistent style and sound. They create strong songs which manage to be both tuneful and quite aggressive. The vocals are strong and although Whiplasher is no Morten Harket (who ...
Advantages: Inspirational in a full-on blizzard kind of way Disadvantages: No lyrics. But there are other albums to cater for that.
So you want some new music to listen to? You think you've heard it all? Try this on for size - it's Violindustrial and it's a revolution...
Emilie Autumn is dear to my heart. Her dark and yet immensely colourful corseted world has fascinated me for aeons. This latest release of hers combines spellbinding classical violin solos with the bizarrely original angst-ridden sound of electric violins. Classically trained in the violin from an early age, ... ...based period pieces) and her future (Unlaced - fast-paced angsty electric movements) in a mixture that will delight anyone who dwells in the mysterious, the odd and the downright dazzling.
Autumns talent and passion is clear, and she has managed to create a small yet passionate fan base through internet circulation of her previous- more vocal - releases. For previous fans (undoubtedly you are all member of the Bloomer Brigade ;-) ) - do not expect ...
Advantages: Some good songs and a couple of great ones Disadvantages: Overall it's a bit tedious though
...an off form U2 with some screaming. Worst track so far and easily so.
* Kiss the Carpet *
Hahaha, sorry – have to laugh here. The song title’s reminded me of an inside joke about fellow member Rixie. Ah dear me, back to the song. Closest in style to Phantom, it’s more electric drumbeats and spaced out riffs. The fuzzed up bass present in the song is a bit unsettling, as it doesn’t quite seem to fit in time with the rest ... ...Alice but slower. There’s quite some variety to the song, despite the riffs themselves being quite repetative – it’s the clever way the song is put together that lifts it.
* Fix *
Unlike Fix, which goes on for over three and half minutes without ever changing melody! Fuzzed up bass, little guitar melodies and that Nick Cave in a cave style singing again. Boring!
* Burn *
Although it’s not a cover of the Nine Inch Nails ...
Advantages: Amazing vocals, heartfelt songs like 'Memories' and 'Forsaken' Disadvantages: Many tracks were unimpressive.
...'The Cross' and 'Forgiven'. The Silent Force, out of the 13 tracks listed in my opinion only has five songs that would merit buying the album:
Track 1/Intro - Truly epic, truly powerful, a haunting opening to the CD which pulls right at the heartstrings. A short but lovely piece of music!
See Who I Am - Upbeat and slightly aggressive, sounds a little alien compared to the other tracks. However, there's a lot of power here, I imagine it's brilliant ... ...is a wonderful song which almost reaches 'Memories' in terms of quality. Angels - I've heard this track many times before, but I still love it. Caters well to escapism, it's given me much inspiration!
Memories - My favourite track on the CD, can't get enough of it! A lot of care and emotion went into this song, and Sharon delivers it beautifully. I was very disappointed with the tracks 'Aquarius' and 'It's The Fear'. Though the other 8 tracks not ...
Advantages: A Great Introduction To The Music Disadvantages: Let's Go To Bed, The Walk
Album: Staring At The Sea Artist: The Cure
Released: 1986
Running Time: 62 mins
1986 was a strange year for The Cure, as it was the first year since 1979's debut album "Three Imaginary Boys" in which they released no new material. After the pop triumph of "The Head On The Door", the band took time out to take stock and to plan their next long-player. What 1986 did throw up though was an excellent collection of Cure singles and B-sides from 1978-1985; ... ...the quirky, bass-driven "Killing An Arab" - a skeletal post-punk track with eastern atmospherics. The first thing that strikes you about the band is their apparent contentment for huge gaps in the sound to exist. This brand of confidence and understated approach was not that unusual in 1978, but "Killing An Arab" is definitely left-field - particularly for a debut single. As a footnote, the title for this compilation - "Staring At The Sea" - comes ...
