Advantages: raunchy and emotional Disadvantages: may be a liitle dark for some
...it's good.
Track 1: Broken English
Title track and a slow jazzy raunch of a song inspired by the Baader Meinhof terrorist gang. Recommended.
Track 2: Witche's Song
Kind of an early feminist rant to an upbeat guitar backing. Good.
Track 3: Brain Drain
Slow blues, have a glass of something, very laid back.
Track 4: Guilt
Song about female guilt. Raunchy electric piano, jazzy.
Track 5: The Ballad of Lucy Jordan
Superb and best version of the ... ...by Dr. Hook. Sends shivers every time I hear it.
Track 6: What's the Hurry
Personally, this is the weakest on the album. Lot of synthesiser sounds a bit dated.
Track 7: Working Class Hero
Spooky evocative version of the John Lennon classic. Accompanied by a thumping walking bass. Builds to a crescendo.
Track 8: Why D'ya Do It
Song inspired by a poem by Heathcote Williams. The most accurate portrayal of female jealousy and vengeance I know of. ...
Advantages: Catches the youthful sound of Mark E Smith Disadvantages: The Drums sound to mechanical in places
This was the first Fall album I ever bought and I now have all of them. The Fall frontman Mark E Smith has always been a lyrical genius and the likes of 'No Xmas for John Quays" prove this here, 'The X is Xmas is a substitute crucifix for christ' is spit out with impressive venom. With repetition a permanent fixture in The Fall's music down the years the last track 'Music Scene' is excellent. It made me laugh the first time I heard this as they leave ...
Advantages: Good music and lyrics Disadvantages: Vocals a little irritating
Pink Flag was the debut album by unique punk band Wire. Whilst Wire were around at the same time as The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, The Stranglers and so on and were mainstays of the punk movement, there music is considerably different. The style is ahead of it's time and would be more at place in the early 80s during the new wave and post punk years.
For anyone who listens to Slicethepie, it should be obvious that any number of Alternative ... ...Ex Lion Tamer (2.48) and Pink Flag itself. Brazil is an excellent short track though that manages to fit a lot in to 40 seconds whilst Three Girl Rhumba was clearly stolen by Elastica!
This is good music and I like to listen to it now and again but I prefer something a bit more traditionally catchy myself. The band change from a chilled out alternative (in the vain of those bores Radiohead before they existed) type of guitar playing to punk rock ...
Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.
...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.
The album booklet is a simple black 14 page booklet which includes the lyrics to all the songs. There is also 3 pictures of Lady Gaga in her typical ...
Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
