North star grassman and the ravens was a stunning accomplishment what with her stunning, angelic alto voice. The title track remains the best out of the bunch for me although a couple of sublime covers and Richard Thompsons phenomenal folk guitar wizardry really shines the light for a number of songs making this album on a whole a stunning feat in folk craftsmanship. Everything about this classic falls into place and fits together like a big jig-saw, the lyrical craftsmanship which tells a beautiful story, the thickets of imagery within, the opening music and of course Sandy's enchanting voice. It starts with a guitar strumming some chords and then as the melody develops Thompson launches into a memorable first line “Dirty people take what’s mine”…. Thompson has always been good with quips, puns and dark humour. Here, talking about a coffin:

A song ... ...folk influences on this album I really do find this misleading. There are no maypoles and jolly green giants here, not even the odd errant knight and nare a whisper of a Morris dance. The Folk in this collection is largely industrial folk, poverty-ridden, dirty, gritty….. People on the breadline trying to make a buck or two. Such is the yang to the ying of the pastoral paradise we traditionally associate with country folk.

...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.

Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
