Advantages: A wistful and highly original album. Very poignant. Disadvantages: Not most people's cup of tea. Depressing.
...this album, drawn by Syd Barrett himself, is of insects. It is a subtle tribute to the beatles, as they are all beetles.
Like the Beatles, Syd often writes very childish lyrics and simple, straightforward love songs. However, there the similarity ends. As experimental as the Beatles were at the time, they cannot match Syd for sheer experimentation and audacity. He was the mainstay of early Pink Floyd and wrote their completely wonderful debut album ... ...safe, you know The elephant he told me so."
It has a fantastic, jaunty rhythm and makes for a great way to round off the album, otherwise it would be overly dark.
Barrett is not for everybody, but it contains some truly outstanding and brutally honest lyrics. ...
Advantages: Some of the best early Floyd Disadvantages: Tracks taken from progressive albums so they lose something
I've always loved this album and it's original cover not pictured here,it's some of the earliest progressive rock ever with, such brilliant Syd Barret Tracks as "See Emily Play" a wistful song presumably about a woman and "Bike" a pschadelic song about Syd's posessions. Pink floyds sound changed quite a bit when Syd had a breakdown and left and was replaced by Dave Gilmour, so this is an important album in my mind, keeping Syds music alive. (though ... ...of the tracks)
I also love "Arnold Lane" a strange song about a transvestite who steals womens clothes by night and ends up in prison. It has a very strange black and white video as well if you can find it. There are also many instrumental songs like "Interstellar Overdrive and "careful with that Axe Eugene".
This is a great album to play in the background at social gatherings if your friends are into Progressive Rock, this is a popular album. ...
Advantages: It's damn good music! Disadvantages: Hard to pigeonhole, and people like things to be pigeonholed. One clunker of a track.
...them off to Radio Luxembourg for what the band thought was a test recording. They cut eleven songs in twelve hours, including vocals and overdubs. Although the band were happy with what they thought were a batch of demo recordings, they were more than a little miffed to discover that their managers wanted to release them as an album, and the rather too obviously titled "For Fox Sake" is that album. Back in 1970 the album died a death, but, as with ... ...Boy Band manager is looking for a sure-fire hit for his lads then here it is. Alex sounds uncannily like Paul Carrack vocally on this. It's a soulful performance with nice organ vamping.
"Lovely Day" is from the pen of Steve Brayne, who takes a strident lead vocal on this exultant number (NOT the Bill Withers song)
"As She Walks Away" (Lane/ Apostiledes) slows the pace down to a crawl. A melancholy mood broken by the next track "Glad I Could" (Brayne), ...
Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.
...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.
The album booklet is a simple black 14 page booklet which includes the lyrics to all the songs. There is also 3 pictures of Lady Gaga in her typical ...
Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
