Reproduction (Re-Mastered) The Human League
Advantages: interesting very very interesting Disadvantages: too "interesting" in places
If i could start by saying thet the babies being stamped on by anonymous stilletoes on the front cover are not real ones ,but it does grab your visual attention ,and if you are open minded enough to allow a band its "early period"then "Reproduction"can be a very rewarding experience ,there is little in the way of hits or even pop,but if curiosity gets the better of you after glancing at the cover then buy a ticket and jump on .
This is the sound ... ...1978,at this point The Human League consisted of four blokes ,a couple of synthsisers and a slide projector and a warehouse load of ideas and concepts, none of them remotely linked to each other ,and giving the overall effect of a band not playing what they wanted but what they could manage ,and thats where the magic starts .
Opening track "Almost Medieval" comes crashing in with chaotic drum machines and a synth set to "organ"and a repetitive chorus ...

Formulaic
Advantages: Some good stuff Disadvantages: Too many retreads
...These - the album The Pleasure Principle and the single Cars - were ready for early autumn release, and soon topped the UK album and singles charts. By that time, his hair was jet black and the records were issue under his own name; otherwise little had changed. Numan emphasised the stark, futuristic aspects by giving all the tracks one word titles (Airlane, Complex, Metal, Films, Observer).
Numan was a potent phenomenon. Harsh and simplistic though ... ...its own. His image was derived primarily from Bowie, his music from Kraftwerk, Ultravox and Eno, while a smattering of science fiction completed the persona.
By the time of The Pleasure Principle, Numan was starting to repeat the feats achieved on Replicas, but was clearly dropping into formula. ...

The Tubeway Army "Replicas"
Advantages: Much better sound quality Disadvantages: None
This CD is full of Gary Numan`s classic work from his earlier days prior to his hit album The Pleasure Principle.
The songs on this are really great for what they are.
The booklet is something that most booklets don`t contain these days, an actual mini biography, pictures, track listings as well as the song lyrics.
Today it seems as if you pick up a new CD , you open it up & there are no lyrics in the booklet.
This CD has it`s place in my vast ... ...would have to say is the fantastic hit "Down In The Park" the song is very calming as well as a little moving.
This song is also featured on the soundtrack to the classic motion picture "Times Square".
Gary Numan has been releasing high quality music for three decades, but for me, it doesn't get any better than this, his second release with his band, Tubeway Army. This album, released at a time when Punk had almost given way to the New Romantic ...

The First Cut Was The Deepest
Advantages: Good to listen to, innovative Disadvantages: Forget it if you despise electronic music
Anyone who only ever listened to the boy-meet-girls perfect pop of the Human League in the era of "Dare" (don't you want me babeeeee?) will never know what they missed.
The original League line-up, with Phil Oakey as singer but minus the girls and featuring Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh - the boys who later teamed up with Christopher Walken look-alike Glenn Gregory to form Heaven 17 - was a rather different animal, The music was electronic pop ... ...the later version.
The album begins with "Almost Medieval", an electronic intro which sounds like middle ages music played on a synthesizer and then it's on with a thumping beat and Oakey singing a strange song possible about reincarnation where there is a mixture of modern and history. Lyrics example:
"jump off the sidewalk, there's no stagecoach speed limit,
Outside the office hangs a man on a gibbet"
Great stuff!
"Circus of Death" starts ...

You better you better you bet
Advantages: Read text thanks Disadvantages: Read text thanks
...This is a greatest hits album from a band who I have up there as one of the master bands of Rock and Roll music. I am sure some of this bands songs have appeared on movies as soundtracks. In addition the main reason I bought this album is because they included the song you better you bet as track number 16 as well as the classic song 'who are you'.
Largely because of these two classic tracks I bought the album as I wanted to listen to other tracks ... ...songs all of which were greatest hits by the Who. I will try to describe and detail as best as I can on a track by track basis.
-------------------------------
Track 1: I can't explain: This perhaps is an interesting song, as it starts off in a punchy and forceful way on the guitar as well as having nice to hear lyrics. The song provided me with a pleasant mood to hear other songs on the list. Overall I find this a really great track that really ...
