Advantages: Something for everyone. Disadvantages: Almost forgotten album
I grew up with this album, it's the soundtrack to my childhood. With rockers for parents it was never expected for me to be your average teenager, listening to rap and other up to date things like that. My earliest memories are of Journey, being blown away by Steve Perry anyway. The first time I can remember listening to Journey gave me goose bumps. NEVER in my life had I heard such silky smooth vocals on an awe-inspiring range. The man was simply ... ...even if I wish they could. This is definately my favourite album because of its unknown status. Amidst all the greatest hits, this album is slightly left out, with only one song making the 'greates hits' status. You know this song has sentimental value from the meaning behind the words. My favourite, 'Raised on Radio' is about Steve Perrys childhood, how he would sit by the radio, day after day, fascinated by music, not caring about the genre, the ...
Advantages: good old-fashioned rock from the 80s Disadvantages: none
...and I now see that there are two editions available on Amazon now - published in 2000 and 2006. Why do I like it and recommend it? - the sheer variety and skill in it. There are ballads such as 'Tough of the track' - which also has a snippet of the commentary by Norris McWhirter for the first time the mile was run in under three minutes, by Roger Bannister. Not your normal Rock material, but it fits brilliantly. Then there are heart-rending lyrics ... ...when you are feeling down and buried under the pressures of life. Really, I cannot find a single track n this disc that is not better than good, and worth hearing. Do buy it, if you liked any AOR or Soft Rock of the time - you will be pleased you have. ...
Advantages: Can get it cheap, GOOD AC / DC ALBUM Disadvantages: May not suit all tastes..
If you like ac/dc and want one of the better albums (aside from Back in black and highway to hell) it is late 80's (some consider this a dark time for tasteful music!) About AC / DC, AC / DC are, for me one of the best bands ever, officially formed in the early 70's and have stood the test of time, they are about to record a new album! It is hard to describe why I like ac / dc so much, but one thing I can say is that they know how to put on a show! ... ...professional band, yet have such a brilliant raw energy, that simply is a joy to watch and hear, and the music is so clever, yet simple, both in the guitar and lyrics and you can only get a sense of it by hearing it! It is evident in just about all there albums, personally the first ac / dc I heard, was 'The razors edge' and I loved it and compared to the other albums it is quite different, but all the albums have the same theme running through them, ...
Advantages: One of Van Halen's best - a true classic! Disadvantages: Arguably too commercial
...and mainstream charts. 1984 is seen as the final chapter in the great days of the bands success as the last album before David Lee Roth departed as frontman. 1984 was their biggest selling album to date and arguably their best ever. Die-hard Van Halen fans sometimes find it too commercial but it should be noted that there is a fine line between commerciality and being enjoyed by everyone. The use of synthesizers should not put anyone off buying this ... ...heard in two of the songs, 'Jump' and 'I'll wait'. The track listing is as follows:
1. 1984
An instrumental introduction. Sets the pace for the rest of the album.
2. Jump One of the biggest hits Van Halen ever had. A fast-paced rock track with an wealth of synthesizers, make this track probably the most commercial, although one of the most catchy. 3. Panama Another big hit and one of the most memorable, with a sensational guitar solo and brilliant ...
Advantages: Great debut album Disadvantages: Just the one weak song
...albums released by the band, Bon Jovi's debut album in 1984 was, at the time, quite groundbreaking in terms of crossing boundaries. It combines familiar elements of various genres and puts them into unfamiliar territory, and helped pave the way for the cheesy 80s rock that we know and love.
The album starts off with one of my favourites: Runaway. This one made it onto BJ's 'best of' album, Crossroad, and was deserving of its place. Its fast paced ... ...of a band such as Bon Jovi at the time, with a synthesiser sound at the forefront of pop sounds. BJ used this sound to cross over and put a little commercialism on their pop, getting them a cheesy rock title but launching them into another genre, almost, and this track certainly shows why.
I'm not too keen on She Don't Know Me. It kind of flirts between a slower tempo and a quicker one, and never really makes its mind up. This kind of teetering, ...
