Review of Gold (The Best Of Spandau Ballet) - Spandau Ballet

No-No...........No Good These Days

Advantages: Slick 80's pop
Disadvantages: Not their best

..."No-no-notorious notorious" later sampled by Notorious BIG and Puff Daddy in 1999. The songs then eases into a slinky, faux-funk groove and is really one of the best tracks they've recorded. Typical Duran lyrics are abound with nods to "flakey bandits" and "boys making noise" and a great female "gasp" sample to add a little bit of tension to the tack. God knows what they're on about, but hold on kids, because it's a downhill ride from hereon in. ...
...the rest of the album is the tempo. Apart from a couple of upbeat tracks and a really slow one, the rest seem to find a balance somewhere in between and occupy that mid-tempo kind of groove that Oasis seemed to have settled for on their last two albums. This track, while not particularly bad, just doesn't affect me in the way their earlier stuff did. Remember the macho excitement of Wild Boys or the exoticism of Rio? Well, there's little of that ...

Disadvantages: cant get hold of it

on two cds, this should be released on dvd are you listening emi, this shows another reason why duran were so big, there videos were watched and loved by millions and were certainly groundbreaking and original. i have never seen a bad duran video, and all the best early vids are included here, also some of the later vids up to serious, and violence of summer, wow man, check out those chicks. Ah, memories... teenage years...

Advantages: deep layers of rich sound, prog rock influences
Disadvantages: poor arrangement of "goodbye is forever", some people get embarrassed about liking things linked to Duran Duran.

The album came out in two versions, a standard package, and a boxed set of four 12 inch dance mixes - a very unusual packaging ploy. On the LP, side one sported the epic Chant No 1 and three other upbeat numbers, but side two was deliberately experimental. Lifting ideas wholesale from the likes of Japan, tracks like Innocence And Science and Missionary mingled Indian and oriental ...
...30 and She Loved Like Diamond (49) caused a swift reassessment and regrouping for later albums. Chant is a sublime slab of dance funk and a must have, with Beggar and Co’s brass section flashing all over it. It was a massive hit and stands out from the rest of the stuff here like a true diamond. Best advice is get the single - dump the album. ...
