Hounds of Love - Kate Bush
Advantages: Almost perfect album, improved seperation of sounds in remastered form. Disadvantages: One or two slightly weaker tracks.
...tracks presented on them. However, Hounds of Love is something else.
After an initially busy period, Kate Bush has been somewhat sporadic in her output although I'd saying raising a family is a fair reason so all kudos to her for doing the right thing. Hounds of Love did pop out a bit later than most people expected but when it did it showed a radical departure from her previous work and presented an interesting fusion of Fairlight samples, Irish ... ...in to two halves subtitles Hounds of Love and The Ninth Wave. On CD of course, it's just one big lump of music.
The tracks are:
Hounds of Love Side
1. Running Up That Hill. A huge hit single at the time that sets the tone for this part of the album. Lots of energetic if slightly muted drums and synthetic horns give way to the instantly recognisable Bush vocals that tell the story of wanting to do a deal with God to swap places with a loved one ...

A Black & White Delight!!
Advantages: Well worth the money, can watch over and over again Disadvantages: A little bit short on running time
A Black & White Delight!!
I find there is nothing better on a miserable day than to settle down with the fire on to watch an old black & white movie! Now for those of you who are too young to remember, and that of course includes me (not!), before colour television was available all programmes were viewed in black and white. Not only were the old movies televised in black & white, but the original footage is in black & white, due to the lack of ... ...you see is nothing but black and white. However, that for me is the magic of those old movies, a captured period of time gone by…
However, today, with all technology available to enhance the finished footage…….. Why would you then choose to film it in Black & White??
Make it look old? Give it some character? Who knows, but with this show, it really works!!!

Classy Clash.
Advantages: Some iconic stuff here. Disadvantages: Couple of weak tracks.
...(Siouxsie). Basically it is the story of a mixed race Vietnamese child trying to get to America. Thrown into this mix is the decimation of Northern England steel foundries, 'junkiedom USA'. It is a depressing song yes, but also brilliant in it's insight, 'There aint no asylum here', how contemporary that was and prophetic. This is lyrically and politically quite stunning as a song.
'Clear as winter ice, this is your paradise "there aint no need ... ...hell boy'. (the steel), followed by "Let me tell you about your blood kid, it aint Coca Cola, it's rice", to the Vietnamese child. So harsh, so raw. 10/10.

A punked up version of the Junior Marvin song, bloomin' fantastic, the echo on the lead guitar is just the business. How they manage to turn this song into what it becomes is sheer brilliance. If you heard this before Junior Marvin's original you would say that ...

Not Goth!!! This is art rock!
Advantages: 9 art rock classics Disadvantages: er, the cover?
...- released their debut album in 1980, at the height of the indie boom. It's clear that Murphy had been aping Bowie with his vocal style, indeed critisicm of the band would be that they were no more than Bowie clones. That's essentially unfair, as this forgotten classic shows. Ash was a good guitarist in his own right, and this is as much his record as it is Murphy's.
For 2-3 years Bauhaus (named after the 1930's German art movement) were just about ... ...drumwork, leaving the listener in no doubt what to expect for the rest of this record.
Low rumbling bass opens the great piece "In The Flat Field", "I get bored, I get bored, in the flat field", howls the vocals, with more guitars again more edgier than The Edge himself. A great outro to this, echoing guitars over great fretwork
Another outstanding track "God In An Alcove" - driven along by David J and alternating between light/heavy sections, ...

Hole lotta sickness
Advantages: Like nothing you've heard before, psychedelic insanity Disadvantages: Some will find this crude or just plain offensive
...I think you'll agree.
Locust Abortion Technician is widely regarded as their greatest achievement, the point at which their mixture of shrieking guitar and frankly satanic vocals reached full fruition. Having not heard any of their other albums so far, I cannot really comment, but I can assure you that this is a classic album, so long as you have the stomach for it.
It immediately wrongfoots the listener by kicking in with some dreamy synth, and ... ...about the meaning regret. If you've heard Orbital's track "Satan" then you'll know what's coming, for it was here that they lifted the by-now classic sample. The father explains, and then casually says "Oh, and by the way, if you see your Mom this weekend, would you be sure and tell her...SATAN!!! SATAN!!! SATAN!!!" The guitar riff from Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" explodes into life, only speeded up and accompanied by some demonic laughter. This ...
