Advantages: A splendid, old-style pop album Disadvantages: None. Not in my eyes, anyway
We live in revisionist times. The term "r 'n' b" seems to have been wrenched away from multiple generations of venerable African-American combos permutating vocals, horns, guitar and piano; these days to serve the needs of an army of computerised-backbeat-supported Beyonce clones. Likewise pop; for me, this was always catchy songs played by guitar bands, but I reckoned without the march of Stock, Aitken and Waterman and their natural sons and heirs ... ...it's catchy of a fashion, but then again so is smallpox and that's why nobody's allowed it out of a test tube for years.
Which brings me to a proper band. A band that ruined my university dissertation. As they were once rather embarrassingly introduced onstage at the old Wembley Stadium by Gary Davies, "a band who come from Pleasanton, California". Jellyfish.
Jellyfish was built on the core of two self-confessed jazz snobs who met in high school; ...

I was recommended this album by my brother-in-law as he knew that, at the time, I was listening to music by bands like the Beach Boys, Queen and Supertramp amongst others. It was a good recommendation. I loved the music and it's only recently that I bought a copy for myself. Jellyfish: The Band Jellyfish were an American band hailing from San Francisco at the start of the 1990s, playing indie rock / power pop music. Advantages: British pop at its absolute best. Disadvantages: Quirky style can take a little time to get used to.
Mention the band "The La's" to anyone who knows anything about music and you'll no doubt get the reply "Who?" or "Never heard of them" but mention one of their songs: "There she goes" and almost everyone will reply singing the lines of the song. How can a band with such an enourmous hit single fade away to obscurity so easily and be as forgettable as any other one hit wonder? The answer is mostly down to the unstable environment that was the band, ... ...as at best "an absolule perfectionist". The fact that this album was recorded at least 7 times is evidence for the case that perhaps Mr Mavers was a little too obsessed with getting everything just right. Basically, if you believe what little stories there are about the demise of the La's (who incidentally split up not long after the album was released) they ended because of personal differences and a common dislike for the record label, who to all ...

...This is a greatest hits album from a band who I have up there as one of the master bands of Rock and Roll music. I am sure some of this bands songs have appeared on movies as soundtracks. In addition the main reason I bought this album is because they included the song you better you bet as track number 16 as well as the classic song 'who are you'.
Largely because of these two classic tracks I bought the album as I wanted to listen to other tracks ... ...songs all of which were greatest hits by the Who. I will try to describe and detail as best as I can on a track by track basis.

Track 1: I can't explain: This perhaps is an interesting song, as it starts off in a punchy and forceful way on the guitar as well as having nice to hear lyrics. The song provided me with a pleasant mood to hear other songs on the list. Overall I find this a really great track that really ...
Of Whales and Woe is Les Claypool's first proper solo album. His name may not be familiar to all as he is better known as Primus' frontman bassist extraordinaire. This album was released back in 2006 on his own record label Prawn Song. (It was recently re-released on vinyl as of November 2009.) Not so much of the wacky lyrics on this album but a far more accessable feel than his previous works. Nearly every track featured here is bass-driven in his ... ...check this out! The arrangements of the other instruments like saxophone sitar, guitar and drums, etc sit really well together without drowning anything out. The songs themselves are really catchy and you'll find yourself singing along too by the end of it. There is even one track on here, Iowan Girl, written specially for his wife with some of the most amazing bass playing I have ever heard. There isn't a bad track on here in my opinion.
