I've noticed that there is ... ...Very Best Of The Stranglers' - released Jun 2006). This doesn't quite supercede this one because though it has 20 tracks as oppossed to 15 it is missing '96 Tears'. Also this is the one I own so I can only review this one!
I bought this on cassette back in 1990 on the strength of 'Alway The Sun' a beautiful ode to trying to keep your chin up in a cruel world. I still have the tape as my old Escort only has a tape player, and I generally only listen ...
Advantages: A couple of big tunes Disadvantages: Little variation
“Americana” came in 1998 as the fifth album from the Punk Rock band The Offspring (whose debut had come nine years earlier). As the one which would succeed it (“Conspiracy Of One”) and their third (“Smash”) it stood as one of the Dexter Holland-led band’s most popular records, and was the Pop breakthrough for the act as they dropped “Pretty Fly”, amongst a few other successful singles. 1. “Welcome” (Intro) 2. “Have You Ever?” After a short introduction, ... ...and I have to say that it didn’t really come out with results anywhere close to what was expected as they come with a pretty typical Punk approach with an apparently over-crowded set and lots going on, but at the foundation level, things such as the off-beat vocal deliver annoyed me as I couldn’t easily engage with the music. **One Star** 3. “Staring At The Sun” They adapt their style for this one as you see that they are able to escape a lot of ...
This is Green Days earliest collection of recordings. I particularly love this offering because it showcases the early works of green day this was release in 1991 and then re-released. This album has 19 songs to offer my favorite song of this album is disappearing boy this album is a treasure to all Green Day fans and all fans of the early punk pop era. I thoroughly enjoy this album and the nostalgia that comes with this. However this album may not ...
The offspring are one of my all time fave bands ive been listening to these guys when i first heard their smash album. Their high energy songs with fast guitar playing just seems to rock my world. (sorry about the copy and pasting from my last review but this info doesnt really change)
BACKGROUND:
The offspring are a american punk rock band who have been out since the mid 80's, they joined the likes of epitath (a cool record company) who started ... ...believe (booo to sony).
SOUND:
The offspring are a typical punk rock band which means catchy lyrics, fast guitaring, rocking drum beats and some nice bass lines. They sound a lot like most punk rock bands such as NOFX, BAD RELIGION, MILLENCOLIN, now people say what if i dont know these bands well im sorry but thats who they sound like lol.
FRONT COVER:
This front cover has a sort of mexicain gothic feel, with lots of skulls and bright colours, ...
Advantages: Raw, distorted and very punkworthy Disadvantages: None, because it is music made for the right reasons
As many others have pointed out, The Offspring have unfortunately gone downhill, and are now all too commercial.
But it started very differently and marvellously. Although this is cited as their debut, it is actually their second release. Their self-titled debut was only released in the UK in 1995, after the success of their breakthrough third album, 'Smash'.
So who are The Offspring? Well, they come from the Orange County area of California. Schoolfriends ... ...on the breadline, or even in a bad area of the neighbourhood. The main inspiration for forming the band was boredom, and hatred of the 'nine-to-five' lifestyle. Apparently, the turning point came when they were turned away from a Social Distortion gig, a local punk band.
Greg was a precocious bassist, and Dexter was an able guitarist, drummer and vocalist. Soon, they picked up the older janitor of their high school, who was a highly skilled guitarist, ...
