Advantages: Good collection of songs Disadvantages: Quite out of date now
I recently decided to look right through my tape collection and found this. It was also released on CD in 1998. Of course, a newer collection, "The Essential Paul Young" has just been released but "From Time To Time" is a good compilation.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Every Time You Go Away
2. Come Back And Stay
3. I'm Only Foolin' Myself
4. Senza una Donna
5. I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down
6. Broken Man
7. Everything Must Change
... ...Of The Common People
11. Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)
12. Both Sides Now
13. Oh Girl
14. Softly whispering I Love You
My personal favourites are the cover of Daryl Hall's "Everytime You Go Away" and the angst-ridden "Wherever I Lay My Hat". I enjoy the R and B tinged "I'm Only Fooling Myself" and "Everything Must Change".
"Wherever I Lay My Hat" was originally the B-side to Marvin Gaye's "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby" and was meant ...
Advantages: more great singles than you could carry great price Disadvantages: not enough recognition
Once the Great White Hope of pop, early promise and even Beatle comparisons should have set X.T.C. on the road to a Stadium near you ,alas it never quite happened ,though listening to this its hard to figure out why ,short sharp pop songs with instant melodies and intelligent and humorous lyrics ,all recorded in an everchanging array of style and form ,from the prickly punk of Statue of Liberty to the downright bizzare Making plans for Nigel, from ... ...terrace chant of 1,2,3,4,5on Senses working Overtime ,X.T.C were a band who kept on moving ,despite the set back of more flop s than hits .
As time moved on their out put decreased but still included consistently brilliant singles ,which people of a certain age would no doubt have heard on the radio ,ardent fans of X.T.C will no doubt have all these track on the many classic albums the band put out in the 70,s and 80,s,but if youve never heard anything ...
Advantages: Features hits from their late 80's prime Disadvantages: A couple of late 90's afterthoughts
...So, as you can see, Galore came at a great time to sum up the second part of their career.
I have detailed below the track listing and given each track my usual mark out of five. I hope this helps you.
1. Why Can't I Be You?
Infuriatingly catchy. A big brass riff dominates this tune and the percussion speeds along at 100mph without ever sounding too manic. Robert is his at his crazy best on the vocals and this is a rare slice of exhuberant joy ... ..."I sometimes wish I'd tried to catch her/But never even caught her name", goes the chorus to maudlin effort. A real regretful piece and one featuring superb atmospherics as a lazy guitar picks its way through the mix. Smith brings the track to a magical close as is "do do do's" meander off into infinity and assert this as quite the best thing on the album, with the exception of.......(5/5)
3. Just Like Heaven

Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.
...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.
The album booklet is a simple black 14 page booklet which includes the lyrics to all the songs. There is also 3 pictures of Lady Gaga in her typical ...
Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
