Advantages: Classic 80s power ballad rock, beautiful melodies, strong vocals, great instrumentals Disadvantages: a couple of weak songs, a bit repetitive at times.
This album is a total classic. Whether you were born before, during or after the 80s, this album will make you relive the 80s in a truly feel good way. Journey have always been a favourite band of mine, but it was this album that made me realise just how great they are. The best songs of their ongoing career. Each individual song has a melody that will captivate your ears and carry you off into the 80s and make you feel like you are actually watching ... ...vocals of Steve Perry, you feel like you can empathise with him by the time you reach the end of the double album. Each track will make you feel at least one emotion and it each emotion feels so strong. The songs i think that capture the imagination and are strongest musically & lyrically are: 1. Still They Ride
2. When You Love A Woman
3. Lights
4. I'll Be Alright Without You
5. Faithfully
Whenever i listen to each of these songs i can instantly ...
Advantages: Fantastic songs, classic Wishbone Ash guitar work, good variety, clear sound quality. Disadvantages: Some songs carry a more simple and generic 'blues rock' feel...
This has to be one of my most played CDs by the mighty rock/prog/blues band Wishbone Ash.
However, with Wishbone Ash albums, I find it hard to avoid at least some kind of comparison with the magnificent Argus of 1972, which many will cite as being THE definitive Wishbone Ash album...
First thing to note, is that 2002's Bona Fide is not another Argus. However, the elements that made Argus so great - the beautiful melodies, the classic guitar harmonies, ... ...Bona Fide.
The opening track, 'Almighty Blues' perhaps gives the wrong impression to start with. You may well think 'it's blues rock, nothing special'. But then we come to the middle of the song, and find over 2 minutes of spectacular 'real Wishbone Ash' instrumental, with climbing guitar harmonies and rockin' solos. Perhaps there is more to this album than first appears!
It's true that tracks like 'Almighty Blues', 'Changing Tracks', and 'Shoulda, ...
Advantages: Great songs and great singing Disadvantages: Still don't dig Eternal Life
...6 concerts in Jeff Buckley's Mystery White Boy tour make up this live album. My ratings are as follows: [*] - Nothing really catches the attention. [**] - Something grabs my attention. [***] - Gets me air-drumming, air-guitaring and singing along to the track. 1. Dream Brother Slow to start, and though in the buildup there is some laidback vocal improvisation, Jeff is having to squeeze hard for some of those falsetto notes. [**] 2. I Woke Up In A ... ...heavy, and the riffs dirty. [***] 3. Mojo Pin Solid but for the final bridge where Jeff slips into sheepish singing - however he does come on strongly for the finale. [**] 4. Lilac Wine As if Buckley has had too much to drink here, what with the guitar losing its way and his vocals being reduced to a croak at the end, though the improvisation in the singing is as strong as it is soulful. [***] 5. What Will You Say Similar to Dream Brother in that ...
Advantages: Lots of big tunes Disadvantages: Final Dance track
“My Kind Of Christmas” came out in 2000 and was the first Christmas album for the Pop singer Christina Aguilera. Coming directly off her debut album, which was then re-recorded in Spanish, it was released prior to her “Stripped” years and so has her in a position where she was much more accessible to the 'family' market. Here she mixes traditional carols with well-covered Christmas classic and some of her own original ones. 1.“Christmas Time” We ... ...that I felt made a strong impression as it shows that here she is down to bring an album that reflects how her debut album sounded with the heavy R&B influence, but she ensured that it sounded as though it stuck to the main 'Christmas' themes. It was one of only two singles from the album, and I felt that it was a nice way to get it underway. **Four Starr** 2.“This Year” We see that she comes in with another fresh tune (a non-cover) here and she ...
