~0~ hits ! - the very best of erasure ~0~ 2003 has been a bit of successful year for Erasure . Firstly saw the release of the highly successful erasure album ' Other Peoples Songs ' , a compilation of classic songs given the erasure treatment . from it were released two successful singles , namely ' Solisbury Hill ' and ' Make Me Smile ( Come Up and See Me ) ' . Next followed a UK tour , which was again well received . Then came the surprise release ... ...released the compilation album ' Hits - the very best of Erasure ' . In the meantime andy and vince continue to work on new material. ~0~ comparison time ~0~ Back in 1992 mute records released ' Pop ! 20 hits ' , a compilation album containing erasures first 20 released singles , plus a bonus remix track of the first ever single release ' Who Needs Love (like that) ' . ' Hit's - the very best of ' was released a full eleven years later . However ...
Advantages: All very good songs, combine touches of the originals and of Erasure very well Disadvantages: Not as good as originals, you may not like covers
...just go and make a compilation of the originals, and hence I’m not going to recommend it. If you like the idea of cover versions though, it’s an interesting album, and may be worth checking out.

Finally in February 2005 and after many a months delay ( it was due to be launched in October '04 ) , 'Nightbird' , Erasures 1st studio album in 4 years was finally unleashed upon an eager crowd .Also unleased at the same time was Andy's HIV status and news that Vince had finally wed ( in a registry office followed by fish & chip reception - who says all pop stars are pretentious ) .
Erasure's pop career can be likened to a hot air ... ...two years for 'Wonderland' to become a hit ) , a steady rise to reach the ( regular ) heady heights of No. 1 status in both album and singles charts during the late 80's , early 90's , followed by a steady decline in fan base and popularity . There has although always been the die hard fan base around to support them .In fact Erasure are the best selling British duo in pop history - all done through a private record label in Mute records .I've enjoyed ...
Advantages: Analogue, Birthright, A Fine Blue line...everything really Disadvantages: Celice...it get's quite annoying
...to chill to.
4. Analogue - ahhh, my favourite! This is their first single off the album and has certainly been played a lot on the radio and even at my work! This is such a brilliant song to come back with, and proves that although they started in the 80's. A-ha are most deffinately making their mark today. 5. Birthright - A gorgeous piano/guitar song, showing off Harkets brilliant voice. Has wonderful lyrics and great backing singing too. This ... ...out from the rest. 6. Holy Ground - For some reason, this reminds me a bit of ABBA?! I think its the piano and drums in the background that just makes me remember. This isn;t the most brilliant song on the album but it's certainly not bad!
7. Over The Treetops - Lots of high pitched harmonies throughout this song make it very unique and very typical A-ha. This will be a great song to listen to at summer
8. Halfway Through The Tour - This song is ...
Advantages: Familar Depeche stylings, good production, respectable DVD extras Disadvantages: Not breaking new ground, some songs over familiar and borderline good
...a correct manner.
For Playing The Angel, the Mode enlisted Ben Hillier's (who's produced Doves and Blur) help for production. After the too feathery sound of 2001's Exciter, the mostly beefy sounds here made the fans smiles return, even if not entirely.
The reason why PTA works is because it's largely a safe album. Instead of branching out into stuff like near trip-hop (which is a term some have used to describe '97's Ultra), the band looked at ... ...it, as much as possible.
While PTA's no nadir, it's certainly the best record since the last Wilder album (Songs of Faith and Devotion - '93).
At the same time this cosiness comes at a price. Certain songs, for instance first single Precious, is quite too close to the hit 1990 single Enjoy The Silence, but without the bombastic pazzazz, nor is the production comparable to that of Flood, who perhaps raised the bar in DM's sound in the 90's.
