Advantages: Another portion of music from Alex Turner Disadvantages: Doesn't have that 'catchyness' that the Arctic Monkeys has...
The Age Of The Understatement is the debut album from The Last Shadow Puppets; a side project of Alex Turner of The Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of The Rascals...one you may well have heard of, but one you may not have!!
The Age of the Understatement was released in the UK on 21 April 2008, going straight to number one in the UK Albums Chart...the hype and success surrounding it was for the most part due to Turner's role in the band. The likes ... ...in the studio.
The Age of the Understatement consists of 12 tracks written by the two of them...on the surface you'd assume it would just sound like the Arctic Monkey's 'third album' due to Turner's rather unique sound and lyrically prowess. But to isolate it from anything the Arctic Monkeys had done previously, they brought in the London Metropolitan Orchestra for the recording to add a new style to the music. An interesting twist on a modern classic ...
Advantages: Lyrically strong and musically very promising. Disadvantages: It just isnt as great as their first album.Songs start firey but fizzle out too soon.
With their brilliant debut album The Back Room, it was clear that Editor's had the musical gravitas to craft another equelly compelling second album. But in my opinion, they didn't. For those of you that haven't heard Editor's then their sound is something like Interpol (vocally) and are definitely neo-post-punk musically. Guitars surge at the beginning of most songs aiming for something breathtakingly brilliant...trouble is that they never quite ... ...slump after the initial promise they offer. The lyrics are still thought provoking and moody, delivered perfectly by the direct and edgy vocals and the music is definitely better than most bands of a similar genre but for me it just doesn't quite cut the mustard. Especially when I am certain that this band could do so much better. But having said that, I am uncertain that most fans will agree with that. I think most people will be ok with this album, ...

Advantages: Top Quality Songs Disadvantages: can't really think of any
I have decided to review each song for you just so you get the feel of it. 1. Vow - Whilst preparing for a night out on the town, listen to this great punk punchy beat. 2. Queer- reminds me of Tom's Dinner by Suzanne Vega but an underground version.
3. Only happy when it rains - Classic, its moody and self indulgent the perfect thing for teenagers to play loud on sunny afternoons. 4. Stupid Girl - fantastic song to sing you will become an instant ... ...of Biork slightly eerie, slow and surreal you can imagine cold white walls and an almost banshee like women ... nice though but, for me its purpose is background music 6. #1Crush - apart from the moaning I love this song, so much passion, empathy and defiance, what person does not like all those things?
7. Push It - this made me buy the album, you can dance to it, sing with it, use it background music, it is hip, cool, and whatever you say, it rocks!

Advantages: Great songs and great singing Disadvantages: Still don't dig Eternal Life
...6 concerts in Jeff Buckley's Mystery White Boy tour make up this live album. My ratings are as follows: [*] - Nothing really catches the attention. [**] - Something grabs my attention. [***] - Gets me air-drumming, air-guitaring and singing along to the track. 1. Dream Brother Slow to start, and though in the buildup there is some laidback vocal improvisation, Jeff is having to squeeze hard for some of those falsetto notes. [**] 2. I Woke Up In A ... ...heavy, and the riffs dirty. [***] 3. Mojo Pin Solid but for the final bridge where Jeff slips into sheepish singing - however he does come on strongly for the finale. [**] 4. Lilac Wine As if Buckley has had too much to drink here, what with the guitar losing its way and his vocals being reduced to a croak at the end, though the improvisation in the singing is as strong as it is soulful. [***] 5. What Will You Say Similar to Dream Brother in that ...
