Advantages: Both contempory and old fashioned sounding, vocally superb & different,Lyrically brilliant &honest. Disadvantages: None really
...distinguisahble vocalists. Reviewing Frank her debut album; I will endeavor to be Frank. I am not going to say anything about her public persona as I dont think this is the most interesting or special thing about this lady. I sometimes feel like the media concentrates far too much on the behaviour of a given star instead on really just how good an artist they. In this case I will agree she is probably a bitch (as many of my friends try to convince ... ...friends who went to my school (same school as Amy) and were in her year (she is a few years younger than me). But I really dont think this should bare any relevance on her clear abilities as a song writer and vocalist. Her vocals are best descrived as Jazz R&B and her voice is really strong as well as subtle depending on the desired effect of the song and deliverance of the lyrics. Although her vocals are really distinguishable from women in her ...
Advantages: Great album, lots of songs to sing to! Disadvantages: Could be a bit longer!
This is my review of Back To Black by Amy Winehouse.
I have owned this cd for about 2 years now (since it was first released) and I liked Amy already and knew her music from when she released her album Frank.
This is my mini review of each of the songs on the album.
Rehab - One of the single thats Amy released that went to number one in the UK and was massively popular. This has been played a bit too frequently for my liking now but if it's been ... ...drinking and drug taking.
Back To Black - This song has a great piano beat and is very vibrant whilst talking about the death of a lover. The video is very sullen and shows Amy at a funeral and everybody being dressed and it raining and being very depressive.
Love Is A Losing Game - The title of this song is quite self explanatory, love is a losing game. A very slow song great to sing along to.
Tears Dry On Their Own - This song has quite depressed ...
Advantages: Not a bad track on it. Disadvantages: None.
...it's just the times, but MODERN TIMES...I love it!
I bought this album blind, never heard a track, and now it's pretty much always playing, either at home or on on my MP3 or even just in my head.
The songs are understated but insistent, calm but driving, his voice is a part of the music while retaining his unique and even eccentric delivery.
The tracks and their lyrics form a tunnel from the past to the present, uniting our history with our future, ... ...from the past.
The record is littered with sharp references to world events like 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, avoiding any accusation of pure musical nostalgia.
In "Thunder on the Mountain" Dylan also name-checks a certain contemporary singer: "I was thinking 'bout Alicia Keys, I couldn't keep from crying/While she was born in Hell's Kitchen, I was livin' down the line." saying in an interview "I remember seeing her on the Grammys. I think I was ...
Advantages: Great songs, not the same as most music out at the moment Disadvantages: Not enough songs, only 10 songs
As a first album goes I think this one is a superb attempt. Paolo has a great voice and every now and then he lets his Scottish accent creep in to his singing, which is not a bad thing. It has both quick paced, upbeat songs and slow songs. I think that the song Last Request is the best on the album, and the live version that is at the end of the track Alloway Grove is exceptional. In my opinion there is not a bad song on the album although some aren't ...
Advantages: Several lively, upbeat numbers, that you will soon be singing along to! Disadvantages: The disappointment of the title track 'Sell, Sell, Sell'
Gray's 3rd album sees a culmination of styles he introudced in his first album 'A Century Ends' and his follow-up 'Flesh'. It is arguably a better and more rounded album, that shows off Gray's many musical styles and talents.
1 - 'Faster, Sooner, Now' The opening track is a lively and upbeat number. For Gray fans who are more used to his calmer and laid back works, the initial drum roll opening is quite a shock and instantly grabs your attention. ... ...better title track than the disappointing 'Sell,Sell,Sell' (but more on that later) This song is annoyingly short though at under 3 minutes, and you end up screaming for more! However this is just a taste of what is to come...
2- 'Late Night Radio'
Whilst not quite as upbeat as the opener, this number is certainly catchy. It proved a big hit in Ireland, unsurprinsgly on late night radio! The 3rd verse is quite scary. Avid Gray fans will tell you ...
