I love this LP, but why the hell I thought it would be possible to find words for what's going on here is totally beyond me. What I do know is that this LP scares the be-living-Jesus out of me! ...time ( of the LP, not your bath! ) is just under 31 minutes, so allowing yourself the time to undergo this, perhaps, is a little self indulgent. But hey, you wont want to do it again for a while! Given that this album has been composed by Nico, with her voice sometimes alienating and bordering on cringe-worthy, owing only to her strong Germanic accent. Her voice however, does have a real sincerity to it, bringing a pleasant wholeness to her sound. ...

Review of Marble Index, The - Nico

EXCELLENCE!

Advantages: A gentle introduction to the velvets
Disadvantages: larger inclusion of trademark VU noise perhaps needed

Opening with 'Candy Says', a gentle and soothing track, excluding the lyrics which tell the tale of a bruised and battered soul, finding and befriending, an empathetic kindred spirit. Without even so much a hint of the madness the VU can create, this track is simply sublime. Taking it up a gear, 'What Goes On' kicks in with a real catchy guitar and driven percussion to back it up. Then comes the all too-cool organ riding alongside to fill and complete ...
...or there, putting the cherry on the cake. 'Some Kinda Love' opens with an almost country fuelled guitar, played in tune and tempo that bounces along clumsily. Lou Reed grounding the sound with his deadpan vocals. The best, but perhaps not favourite track follows. 'Pale Blue Eyes' is fragile, calmly delivering a song that delves into the emotions of loss regret, redeemed only by its recognition and memory of the beauty of its titles subject matter. ...

GaGa still brings the Excitement!

Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks
Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.

...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album. 8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ...
...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010. Why it may not be Pulp, Jarvis maintains his solid solo catalogue

Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool..
Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener

There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. Excellent effort

Advantages: Not 1 bad track
Disadvantages: More tracks would make it more amazing

My boyfriend bought me this after 'Ignorance' had just been released, so I will admit I was expecting an album full of rocky songs almost screamed out. I was very wrong! A diverse range of slow and thought provoking sounds mixed with a good dose of rock. Favourite tracks include the sublime 'Ignorance', 'The Only Exception' and the fabulous 'Decode' taken hauntingly from the hit film 'Twilight'. I never got to hear theier earlier stuff, but if ...
