American Pie - Don McClean
This album was originally released in 1971, this is the 1988 CD version, or at least the CD of the 1988 version (says 1988 on CD sleeve, though I do not remember CD's in 1988! Or maybe I just did not have any then, lol). According to various sources this album is amongst the 'best ever' American albums, really?
McClean was/is primarily a folk singer and this album, by all accounts was a 'one off', he certainly has little ... ...tracks.

1. American Pie The title and opening track. Though this needs little explaining, as there surely cannot be many people that have never heard this, I will give you my interpretation. Released at the height of the psychedelic time in America, summer of love, tune in, drop out etc. this feels almost like a mourning of the innocence of America, it certainly remains, for me a ballad like list of all the is 'good' about America. ...
Advantages: good selection of tracks Disadvantages: not very imaginative in its choices

Harvest Moon This album serves as a decent intro into the world of Neil Young but considering how there is little from later albums like Sleeps With Angels, Broken Arrow, This Notes For You or Life I would recommend the double disc of Decade which features more songs and spans his time with Buffalo Springfield and CSN & Y right up to 1976.
But the criticism of this album only extends the track selection - you cannot argue with ...
This collection came out in 1996, and it try's to put together the more popular of her tracks,with the likes of an artist like Joni Mitchell no collection that a record company puts out is going to cover such a long and varied recording career as hers. The "Hits" compilation tries to cover the more popular tracks from Ms Mitchell. The more interesting album is the "Misses" collection released at the same time as this one.
The songs presented here ... ...as a "HDCD" (high definition compact disc), giving the tracks a rich warm sound that brings out the detail that was lost in the previous pressings of her albums on C.D.
The problem I have with this anthology is that the tracks are not in Chronological order.
The running order is all over the place historically, we start with an early recording from 1967 "Urge for Going".
Then from the 1969 album "Clouds" comes "Chelsea Morning" then from the key ...

I found this CD a few years ... ...Nobody Does it Better recently on his piano brought it all back to me, so off I went to dig up the CD! I like it because it is original, thought provoking and Carly has a distinctive voice. When you compare it to modern ‘music’ such as that er…song ‘Baby Cakes’ it is simply so much better. The music actually means something! She also sings in a low key, which makes it easy to sing along to her songs! Track One-Nobody Does it Better

If your a Elton John fan then this 3 cd collection is definetely for you.
Spanning all decades of his career it includes early classics such as 'Your Song' through to his later work such as 'I Want Love' with the third cd throwing up all kind of gems such a duet with the late Luchiano Pavarotti.
The cover sleeve of the collection is also worth a mention with a excellent collection of photo's and a mini biography of Elton's career to date.
