This album was on my list to buy for some time after I'd heard the opening track - 'Hope There's Someone' - on a compilation ... ...piano-driven instrumentation is dominated by Antony Hegarty's shockingly high pitched quavering vibrato - a vocal that seems at times to reach almost castrato proportions. The albums subject matter that deals with feelings of isolation, loneliness and rejection is skilfully rendered through a series of heart-rending torch songs that seem sincere in their expression of personal suffering. There are cynics who might quickly label this style as somewhat ...
Advantages: Spectacular vocals, and totally original! Disadvantages: a little short and not to all tastes
I would love to say that I have known about them forever, but like many people, until relatively recently I had no idea that Antony and the Johnsons even existed. I now know the error of my ways and have bought both albums. (I am a bird now and their self titled debut)
The songs on this album are beautifully written, and his incredible voice tops them off perfectly. My absolute favourite song on the album is 'Bird gerhl', which is just stunning ... ...the albums sense of completeness. I especially like 'you are my sister'; which features vocals from Boy George, partially because I have a sister and the thoughts in the song strikes a chord with me that way, but also simply as a gorgeous song.
It has to be said that this album is not going to be to everyone's taste, and all I can say is that if you don't like it then it's your loss. Also, it is true that most of the songs do sound fairly similar, ...

...an audio document of the Secret World Tour. The sound is superb and the song choice excellent although it is slightly lopsided in that the first CD clocks in at an hour and the second one is only forty minutes , but that is a very minor gripe.
There was a South Bank Show special on the tour in which Peter described the preparations and you got several songs and some idea of the impressive staging of the event. It was unusual in that it featured ... ...and left through a suitcase in the middle of the walkway, a fantastic start and end to the concert. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it, but it was issued on video and hopefully will be reissued on DVD.
The songs are enhancements of their studio counterparts featuring a particularly stunning version of "Shaking The Tree" , the studio version appearing on "Shaking The Tree:16 Golden Greats" Gabriel's greatest hits package , which I'll get round ...
Advantages: Perfect arrangement, accurate composition Disadvantages: -
...a great orchestra just to turn immediately to aggressive guitar riffs and a solid beat. „May Be A Price To Pay“ is pure mainstream rock, followed by „Games People Play“, a quite successful up-tempo song which can be found on nearly all Best-Of’s. Here the topic „games“ is varied for the first time: whereas the opening track is about gambling and loss of control, this one deals with psychological games of ... ...5. The GoldBug

Maybe more than on any other album since his debut, Parsons consequently turned to his best skills and talents: accurate composition and arrangement, a conceptual framework, interplay of rock songs with simple back-beat and slow ballads. He introduces various lead-singers again, giving each ...
