Advantages: The first and probably the best folk rock album Disadvantages: The line-up never recorded together again
Fairport Convention’s groundbreaking 1970 album “Liege and Lief” is not just a seminal album it can be argued to have launched the whole concept of folk-rock. It is above all still a hugely enjoyable and relevant work which as a listener I return to time and time again. The reason is simple, it is the work of highly skilled musicians at the height of their careers.
The band had started as a West Coast and Dylan admiring band who put out a first ... ...anything alight. The second album “What We Did On Our Holidays” was rather more interesting. Having been joined by Sandy Denny, surely one of the best singers the pop/rock scene ever spawned, an inspired songwriter and boasting one of the most “English” voices imaginable. Richard Thompson, still a highly-regarded and highly individual singer/songwriter. The album featured songs such as Thompson’s wistful paean to friendship “Meet on The Ledge” and ...
Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.
...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.
The album booklet is a simple black 14 page booklet which includes the lyrics to all the songs. There is also 3 pictures of Lady Gaga in her typical ...
Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
Advantages: Not 1 bad track Disadvantages: More tracks would make it more amazing
My boyfriend bought me this after 'Ignorance' had just been released, so I will admit I was expecting an album full of rocky songs almost screamed out.
I was very wrong! A diverse range of slow and thought provoking sounds mixed with a good dose of rock. Favourite tracks include the sublime 'Ignorance', 'The Only Exception' and the fabulous 'Decode' taken hauntingly from the hit film 'Twilight'.
I never got to hear theier earlier stuff, but if ...
Advantages: Every song is full of emotion, of pure energy and even delicacy; a Masterpiece. Disadvantages: Album is so good it leaving you wanting more that can't be satisfied by any other album!
...one track. Looking back to Pinkerton however, it seems foolish that this album was once given a 0.4 by Rolling Stone magazine and had people counting this album as a failure. It's even more ridiculous that in Europe, if I was to ask any 'alternative' fan what Pinkerton was... they'd look at me dumbfounded. Simply, this album is Genius. Each track is individual but the album flows so well that by the end you are left wanting to hear more and more; ... ...the 'Geeks who can play'. Pinkerton is raw, its full of emotion; its essentially Rivers Cuomo pouring out his heart in some of the best Alternative music ever distributed. Each song has a diverse aspect and to pick a standout is impossible. 'Across the Sea' is a beautiful story about a letter River's received from a Girl in Japan... from the lyrics you can feel the plain raw sentiment and longing from Rivers. ‘Tired of Sex’ is the edgy, music laid ...
