Advantages: The voice of an Angel ; Title track being one of the best folk rock songs Disadvantages: Some weak tracks ; Not on the same par as Fairport Convention or Fotheringay
...co-work with Sandy's.
North star grassman and the ravens was a stunning accomplishment what with her stunning, angelic alto voice. The title track remains the best out of the bunch for me although a couple of sublime covers and Richard Thompsons phenomenal folk guitar wizardry really shines the light for a number of songs making this album on a whole a stunning feat in folk craftsmanship. Sandy was perhaps most well known for her major contribution ... ...long.'
10. NORTH STAR GRASSMAN AND THE RAVEN - 3:29
My favourite song on the album and has to be one of the best songs of the folk rock boom of 1964-74. Everything about this classic falls into place and fits together like a big jig-saw, the lyrical craftsmanship which tells a beautiful story, the thickets of imagery within, the opening music and of course Sandy's enchanting voice. Always was a sucker for the organs hehe, lovely backing music, ...
Advantages: a classic scile of celtic rock Disadvantages: may sound dated to some
...and their 1976 album "The Book of Invasions." Seen by many as a return to their earlier sound, like their second album, "The Tain," it is based on stories that come from Irish mythology. The original Book of Invasions is a semi-mythical record of the subsequent races that controlled ancient Ireland. The album is subtitled "A Celtic Symphony" and that neatly sums up the nature of the album. It is a concept album in that it tells a story through the ... ...in the years since, The Book of Invasions remains a never bettered slice of Celtic rock. The album's divided onto three sections or strains. Geantrai (the joyous strain) takes up the first part and opens with the appropriately martial intro Daybreak. A trumpet marks the rising sun and a gentle guitar riff builds in the background soon to be joined by the bass and drums. This upbeat instrumental opening provides a light opening before the medieval ...
Advantages: 8 Great different sounding tracks Disadvantages: Always leaves you wanting more & then you have to wait for her next masterpiece album.
...her earlier stuff on The Fame album. It reminds me of a summer track, listening to it whilst just chilling on the beach. It's not as catchy as the other songs but it does bring something different to this album.
8) Teeth - To be honest when i first listened to this song i thought 'What the Hell is she doing?!?' Its hard to describe this song. It reminds me of a song that would be performed in a cabaret bar and it really is an old-fashioned number. ... ...Dangerous album. He uses old school beats and strange sounding vocals to create a unique song for Lady GaGa. After a few listens to this song i found myself clicking my fingers and tapping my feet to the beat. I'm looking forward to seeing her perform this live when i go see her in concert in 2010.
The album booklet is a simple black 14 page booklet which includes the lyrics to all the songs. There is also 3 pictures of Lady Gaga in her typical ...
Advantages: Excellent, witty lyrics with a decent range of style. Jarvis is just too cool.. Disadvantages: No real 'big hitter' of a track that you'd find on a Pulp album if your a more general listener
...of the 90's. Further Complications is Jarvis' attempt towards a more indie Brit rock album which still oozes the class of a brilliant frontman. The title track is certainly a great opener, catchy and witty which pretty much sums up the rest of the Album. 'Angela' is one of those songs that will get in your head until people end up asking you why the hell you keep saying Angela in a funny accent and who the hell she is! other examples of this raspy ... ...tracks; not the sort that will come on your iPod shuffle and you'll skip. There are more soleful elements to the album too; Discosong and Hold Still, Hold Still especially as one of those typical 'I can barely hear him but it sounds so good' Cocker songs. It's probably become obvious that I mention nearly every song as 'Solid' but this is definately where this album comes in and it does not really contain a big chart hitting song. Then again, who ...
Advantages: Not 1 bad track Disadvantages: More tracks would make it more amazing
My boyfriend bought me this after 'Ignorance' had just been released, so I will admit I was expecting an album full of rocky songs almost screamed out.
I was very wrong! A diverse range of slow and thought provoking sounds mixed with a good dose of rock. Favourite tracks include the sublime 'Ignorance', 'The Only Exception' and the fabulous 'Decode' taken hauntingly from the hit film 'Twilight'.
I never got to hear theier earlier stuff, but if ...
