Advantages: An accessible introduction to the work of Richard Thompson Disadvantages: The album lacks the spontaneity of earlyer records.
For many Rumour and Sigh marked a return to the form Richard Thompson was during the early 80's period of "Shoot out the lights" and "Hand of Kindness". Those classic's in Thompson's cannon were as much the result of the fine production work of Joe Boyd as the brilliant songwriting and guitar playing of Thompson. The mid 80's produced a serious of albums which today sound dated by the production techniques employed on them, although this is not to ... ...there introduction into Thompson’s live shows, yet album version of crowd pleasers such as Valerie (from the 1986 album “Daring Adventures”) sound weak and diluted in comparison. This probably has more to do with the introduction of new producer Mitchell Froom than Thompson taking influence from the Human League! Amnesia (1988) was a solid album, but lacked the spontaneity of the Boyd era albums. Rumour and sigh however went some ...
Advantages: Gives you a little insight into what Evanescence is. Disadvantages: You can't buy it in shops.
...many line-up changes.
Origin-(4/5)
Origin is a small 35 second intro to the album. It is only instrumental with some unknown spoken words. Some people would describe this as bizarre, but i think it goes perfectly with some of the songs on this album.
Whisper-(5/5)
Whisper is the last song on the album Fallen, but it is also on Origin. It is an awesome song which brings out a more symphonic side to Evanescence. It brings different instruments ... ...is used very differently throughout the verses and the bridge verse is a masterpiece bring a short burst of operatic vocals to the song and making it sound darker. At the end group chorals are used to again make the song sound darker. A fantastic song!
Imaginary-(5/5)
Imaginary brings imagery as well as music to the album this time. Many different instruments are used on this track that you do not find on others such as the combination of the harpsichord ...
Advantages: Sheer musical genius, classical music excerpts, unique Disadvantages: Those who dislike classical music may not appreciate it as much.
Muse are, in my opinion, rock gods and I loved every album they've produced to date. I consider Matt Bellamy a musical genius of the (rubbishly named) 'noughties' decade (of course I say this whilst also being aware the the talent of his bandmates too). As I was so busy in America this summer I kind of had my head in the sand and so it was a big surprise to see another Muse album on the shelves. Muse are a band that are going from height to height, ... ...this album seems to be as good if not even more fantastic than their previous releases... *~ The Tracks~* 1. UPRISING The album opens with a song that has Muse stamped all over it - the electronic backing, the epic guitar instrumentals and striking lyrics. This is a song full of attitude and self-importance that would not be out of place on 'Black Holes and Revelations.' It is a very interestingly political track about resisting the media's ...
I've always liked Westlife, though I have never actually gone out and bought one of their albums. And with the recent release of their latest album, 'Where We Are', the case was no different. However a friend of mine who is head over heels in love with Westlife wanted my opinion on the album and, keen to find out what their music was like nowadays, I jumped at the chance, ready and raring to explore. The cover of the album is quite attractive, a ... ...calm. The four band members are on the front, a distant photo of them all dressed in dark clothes and walking slowly. Again it is all so peaceful and welcoming - definitely a cover that would attract me to the album amongst others. You'll find that Westlife covers are generally black or blue so it does mean that fans know what they are looking for too! Now the album itself is home to thirteen tracks, of which I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into. ...
Advantages: Consistency is exceptional with no poor song on the Album. A MUST-HAVE for any collection Disadvantages: Religious factors may offend some, but don't take it seriously (unless you want it to!)
The Thermals are one of those bands that you wish you had discovered sooner; I first came across these guys last year after hearing ' A Pillar of Salt ' a song with such energy that I just had to discover more. It was then that I purchased this album, almost on the spot. The Cover Art was very inviting and it prepares you for an album that is about Hutch Harrison's perceptions of God. I can tell that this may put some of you at an instant distaste ... ...Its in no way the christian rock that you'd expect... its dangerous and edgy and questions in a way that makes the album shine more than you could possibly imagine. I can also say that if you didn't know it was about religion, then listening to the album wouldn't make you realise. It's subtle but powerful to say the least. If you have never listened to The Thermals or even heard of them, then I would recommend this as a great place to start. The ...
