L'Histiore de Melody Nelson
Advantages: Glorious music, sounds like nothing else in the world. Disadvantages: Too much narrating; not long enough.
I imagine that most of you will not have heard any of Serge Gainsbourg’s music. Those that have, will have probably heard the relatively famous “Je t’aime” once or twice, and as a result have dismissed Gainsbourg as rubbish. A few weeks ago, I was in that very position, and so it was with much scepticism that I got this album, purely on the advice of a friend.
Firstly, this album sounds nothing like “Je t’aime”, ... ...and recorded this album in England, with the help of a group of session musicians. It is built around guitar, drum and bass, but also has sweeping orchestrations. I found out, after buying this album, that it’s a great favourite of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. After listening to this it’s easy to see where the inspiration for Kid A’s “How to Disappear” orchestra part came from.
Opener “Melody” starts ...

Of Whales and not so much of the woe if you please!
Advantages: see review Disadvantages: none
Of Whales and Woe is Les Claypool's first proper solo album. His name may not be familiar to all as he is better known as Primus' frontman bassist extraordinaire. This album was released back in 2006 on his own record label Prawn Song. (It was recently re-released on vinyl as of November 2009.) Not so much of the wacky lyrics on this album but a far more accessable feel than his previous works. Nearly every track featured here is bass-driven in his ... ...check this out! The arrangements of the other instruments like saxophone sitar, guitar and drums, etc sit really well together without drowning anything out. The songs themselves are really catchy and you'll find yourself singing along too by the end of it. There is even one track on here, Iowan Girl, written specially for his wife with some of the most amazing bass playing I have ever heard. There isn't a bad track on here in my opinion. TRACK LISTING: ...

My review of Radiohead´s OK Computer
Advantages: A great number of songs are good. Highly original. Disadvantages: No all the songs are that great.
Radiohead does it again. Highly original record. Most songs last forever. The in and out bass line of "Airbag" is brilliant. I also like the way this song slowly unfolds, specially the brilliant guitar. You might be surprised to hear that I don´t care too much for "Paranoid Android" one of their most famous singles. I thought "Subterranean Homesick Alien" was great too. "Let Down" is also a super song that must be in your collection. "Karma Police" ...

My review of Sarah Mclachlan´s Afterglow
Advantages: A few super songs. Disadvantages: Some songs are not that good musically speaking.
I have always admired and been a fan of Sarah McLachlan´s music. Certain songs I find better than others. My favorite song in this record is "Fallen". It is a musically breath taking and perfect song in my opinion. It is one of those songs that lasts forever. I never get tired of listening to it. I also liked "Drifting", "Answer" and "Time". I didn´t care too much for the rest. She has great songs, the only problem with the album is that it is one ...

Titus Andronicus deliver an unpolished diamond of a debut
Advantages: Lo-Fi alternative at its rawest. Seriously brilliant lyrics, exquisite instrumentals/vocals. Disadvantages: Nine songs seems abit short, can be difficult to access, songs sound similar to some.
Titus Andronicus first interested me due to an excellent suggestion from Last.fm. As a fan of Lo-Fi alternative, I'd never heard of them and expected a new wave experimental band with one of those exceptional names, Titus Andronicus being one Shakespeare's earlier works. When I first listened to 'Upon Viewing Brueghel's "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" that Last.fm had suggested, I was very pleasantly suprised; tonnes of atmosphere, distorted ... ...also dawned on me what brilliant lyrics were to be found in the song, rather than telling a story it was dawning on dark conclusions and analogous lyrics can be apparent from just single line' So Father, if it's possible, let this cup pass me by, but if it can't without my drinking it, then thy will be done'. It's truly difficult to understand the true meaning or the context on such a song but it will certainly set you thinking if you can appreciate ...
