Advantages: Great and consistent album Disadvantages: has some minor weak points though, but that might just come down to personal opinion
1)Devour - More pop and mainstream than what Shinedown usually work with, its decently catchy but again not really a direction shinedown had to take. Feels like it was made to be a single. 6.5/10 2)Sound Of Madness - Here is the shinedown we love! Great vocals by Smith, smart, although not inspiring, lyrics and a riff that really gets stuck in your head. 8/10 3)Second Chance - Was a single. Good lyrics. A slower songs than the opening two but Brent ... ...4)Cry For Help - A Decent rocker, but doesnt really go anywhere. The lyrics are nothing special and the music is nothing we havent heard from shinedown like a hundred times. Good filler though. 6.5/10 5)The Crow And The Butterfly - Was played multiple times before the release. Another slow song, good lyrics here. 8.5/10 6)If You only Knew - Another ballad, good chorus, but really this song wasnt needed. Nothing memorable and after the first two ballads ...
Advantages: Good meanings behind most tracks Disadvantages: 2 weak points
Shinedown: The Sound Of Madness
This is another CD (Like Lacuna Coil) that I have come into possesion of (and their others) from my cousin and like Lacuna Coil, It was still in it's wrapper, having never heard of them I gave them a chance and turns out they are pretty good, I have their other CD's so you should expect a review of them later on.
Devour *****
This track starts with the sound of drums that you see the cadets marching ... ...with the guitar-Which is brilliant might i add- And then you have lyrics/Vocals. Now when I first heard the Vocals I thought they sounded a bit like a low down Disturbed(Amazing band). The rhythm to this track is brilliant, It really catches your attention with the drums and, The bass line is excellent.
Sound Of Madness ****
This is an awesome track, A sturdy beat keeps it strong with a simple but effective bass line, Lyrics are superb and ...
Advantages: All your favorite Pearl Jam tracks performed live. Disadvantages: Some repetition.
...anyone who likes recordings of live rock and whilst it obviously helps if you like Pearl Jam that wouldn't be essential. There is repetition of songs as the 7 CD set covers 3 concerts by the band between September 2005 and July 2006 however unless you wish to listen to 8 hours of music in a single sitting this shouldn't spoil your enjoyment. Daughter, Yellow Ledbetter, Crazy Mary, Given to Fly, Black, Corduroy, Green Disease and Better man (the list ...
Advantages: 30 songs, 2 CDs, rare, superb Disadvantages: Some are B sides for a reason!
...cut (and 'Lost' - hence lost dogs!) by PJ over the many years since they began. The likes of 'Wash', "Sad" and of course, one of their greatest ever tracks "Yellow Ledbetter" are all mightily superb and worth more than just a listen.
However, despite me being a massive Pearl Jam fan, some of what's on here isn't so hot...i guess they were made B sides for a reason right? For example, 'Dirty Frank', i know some people like Pearl Jam at their funky ... ...work. And when you consider that more recent B sides such as 'Leatherman' were left off, i think this is perhaps a little hasty on their part.
Still, it's excellent value, with 30 songs over 2 CDS, and the quality of the packaging is, as ever , with Pearl Jam, worth the purchase alone.
Roll on June 18th, when PJ come rolling into London Town...lets see if it can live up to Reading 2006!!!
YELLOW LEDBETTER TO FINISH...oh yes! ...
Of Whales and Woe is Les Claypool's first proper solo album. His name may not be familiar to all as he is better known as Primus' frontman bassist extraordinaire. This album was released back in 2006 on his own record label Prawn Song. (It was recently re-released on vinyl as of November 2009.) Not so much of the wacky lyrics on this album but a far more accessable feel than his previous works. Nearly every track featured here is bass-driven in his ... ...check this out! The arrangements of the other instruments like saxophone sitar, guitar and drums, etc sit really well together without drowning anything out. The songs themselves are really catchy and you'll find yourself singing along too by the end of it. There is even one track on here, Iowan Girl, written specially for his wife with some of the most amazing bass playing I have ever heard. There isn't a bad track on here in my opinion.
