Led Zep standing In The Light
Advantages: all of sides one and two Disadvantages: some of sides three and four
...1970's acoustic "III" album.
Physical Graffiti came out in spring 1975 and was a massive seller, staying at no 1 on the US charts for much of that year. It is a colossal record and most Zepp fans will have either this or the "Runes" album as their favourite. Mine is actually "Houses", but hey, you pay your money and take your choice. CUSTARD PIE
Zeppelin raid Bukka White's "Shake Em On Down" for the rythym track, although with a clever bit of keyboard ... ...rocker. The "Custard Pie" that Robert Plant is singing about appears to relate to a certain part of the female anatomy. I'll leave you to work it out for yourselves.
THE ROVER
Taut, driving, menacing tight but loose. The rythym section hold the song down whilst Jimmy Page spreads a glorious guitar over it. Robert sings of joining hands and dark sides of the globe. It's a plea for unity. Bloody brilliant it is too. Legend has it that the guitar ...

West Coast pyschadelia meets East Coast riffing
Advantages: 1970's American rock at its finest Disadvantages: The "bonus" tracks are not much of a bonus
According to Homer Simpson, 1974 was the year that rock reached perfection. Personally I think they were out by a year, but the writers of that show must have been thinking of releases like this, the third album from New York City's famous hard rock band Blue Oyster Cult. Pigeon-holed as gonzo headbanging rockers to start with, BOC soon showed they were the thinking mans rock band. At a time when the majority of bands were singing about coke, sex ... ...as The Doors and Love left off, taking the West Coast vibe and marrying it to their own harder-edged Eastern seaboard rock sound. This is no mere cock-rock, the subject matter here include such as lesbianism ("Astronomy") incest ("Dominance And Submission") and even World War 2 ("ME262"). Leave behind any pre-conceptions of BOC as "that wierdo space-fantasy HM band", this is just good old straight up rock and roll with a twist in its tail. The twin ...

Are You Ready For A Good Time..?
Advantages: Loud, bad and one of the last great albums of rock. Disadvantages: Commericalism was knocking on the door and the light of rebellion was starting to die out..
From the sun kissed beaches of Oz, the Scottish bums turned surfer dudes returned to London to explode into our brains with the sweaty smell of good old rock and roll. From one loud album after another, AC/DC has become, undoubtedly, the Gods of British rock.
Yet, after the death of wild vocalist Bon Scott in February 1980, there we many of us who thought that the end was nigh for the masters of rock. Acquiring the forty a day tones of Brain Johnson, ... ...new voice. With mop of fuzzy hair sprouting from under a flat cap, AC/DC found the image that they had, all this time represented - long haul truckers.
From the days of Bon Scot, they had developed a style which when fans were drawn in, they became fans for life, although by the time the mid Eighties rolled around, it was the sons and daughters of the original followers who found the 'school boy stage outfit' fitted like a glove. For anyone who ...

Who Made Who
Advantages: The Title Track - Who Made Who Disadvantages: Only has one great new song
...and three new songs, "01. Who Made Who" which is a great song and really worth getting your hands on. "03. D.T." Which is an instrumental and also "08. Chase The Ace" which is another instrumental. If you are familiar with AC/DC you will see this as an unofficial greatest hits, If your not an AC/DC fan then this is a good first album to buy. This includes the thunderous Hells Bells and You Shook Me all night long which I think are fantastic songs ... ...For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) which is simply superb to hear it blasting from your speakers. AC/DC fans will enjoy the new songs on this album, people who enjoy rock, but haven't heard AC/DC will enjoy it even more with so many AC/DC great songs on this ...

Heep hit the ground running...
Advantages: Ten tracks of classic hard rock from 1982 Disadvantages: If you don't like rock you won't like these
Named after a character in Dickens's 'David Copperfield' Uriah Heep released their first album 'Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble' in 1969 and displayed a very organ and guitar enfused form of rock with even acoustic and jazz elements thrown into the mix for good measure.
There fourteenth album 'Abominog', released in 1982, was the follow-up to their previous showpiece 'Conquest' and only contained one surviving member of the band that recorded it. In fact, ... ...motive and starting afresh with a new group.
However, he didn't, and 'Abominog' was a fairly successful album featuring a change of sound for the band. Now, with Pete Goalby on vocals, John Sinclair on keyboards and two ex-members of Ozzy Osbournes band during the recordings of Ozzy's LP's 'Blizzard of Ozz' and 'Diary of a Madman' Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley on drums and bass respectively, the group played a much harder rock than previously and ...
