Advantages: Some of the best ska classics of all time! Disadvantages: The price
I was recommended this c.d by a friend who grew up in the height of the ska era! Not being a die hard fan myself I wasn't that fussed, it cost £15.99 and I thought the price was a bit too expensive but I was pleasantly surpised at how much I liked it and that deep down I had heard some of the songs before. A compilation with the likes of Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Specials, Fun Boy Three, Madness, The Kinks and Desmond Decker made for a very entertaining ... ...famous tracks performed by Paul Weller live were an extra little bonus. 40 songs from some of the greatest ever living musicians make up this essential cd to have for any music collection and even though it was a bit on the expensive side it gave me great hours of easy listening! This C.D is well worth the buy! I'd recommend anyone to buy this compilation of timeless ska classics! ...

I remember when I first got my hands on the vinyl edition of this many years ago. I was so happy to see a lot of my favourite live bands on record all in one place. I played it to death, so you could imagine my delight when it was finally released on CD - With loads more tracks!!
The Countdown Label was the brainchild of Eddie Pillar who, a few years later, went on to form the highly successful Acid Jazz label. This collection brought together some ... ...The CD edition kicks off with two tracks by Makin' Time, a Hammond organ based band which featured the vocal talents of the beautiful Fay Hallam. Band member Martin Blunt later went on the play bass in the massively successful Charlatans. The tracks here: Honey and Take What You Can Get, are demos produced by Dennis Greaves ( Nine Below Zero and The Truth).

Despite Cheryl's vocals sounding surprisingly fresh on the ... ...during the chorus and unlike 3 Words the two seem able to strike up a good partnership with this record which makes for a very catchy number. Then comes yet another Will I Am collaboration with Boy Like You, with a heavy beat and Cheryl's subtle vocals that blend in well with the beat this is one of the more R&B focused songs on the album and is all the better for it.
