Crushing the rose, you smile to the camera.......
Advantages: Absolute class music-making Disadvantages: None at all
Fashion were lumped in with the early 80's New Romantic movement, presumably because they all looked good and used synthesisers, but musically easily knocked their peers like Duran and Spandau into a cocked hat. Think more of them as Roxy Music's younger, hipper brothers, throw in the sights and sounds of late-night jazz in smoke-filled night clubs full of wide boys and sassy girls, penthouse suite lovemaking at 3AM, fast cars, beautiful women and ... ...this "Best Of" basically is, originally took five months to record, with three different studios used (Cambridge, Paris and Cologne) so lord only knows how much it must have cost to make. Arista released four singles from the album and not one made the charts, though the album itself did go Top 10 in June 1982. All in all not the best way to get an extension on your recording contract! The line up at the time of release was Dave "Dee" Harriss (vocals, ...

The Talking heads zenith…
Advantages: truly ground breaking Disadvantages: nothing comes to mind
This 1980 release from one of my favourite bands of the time was the last in a trilogy of albums released with Brian Eno producing the previous 2 being “More songs about buildings and food” and “Fear of Music”, this album took further the “African” influences first used on the previous album “Fear of Music” For this incarnation of the band they added to the normal line-up of personal Byrne, Harrison, ... ...Adrian Belew who had played for Frank Zappa and David Bowie in the past.
Another change was the use of several vocal tracks, where before the songs were monologues with only David Byrne voice, now they used several vocal tracks that featured other people’s voices apart from Mr Byrne.
In the mix was Eno’s voice along with Nona Hendrix from the trio “Labelle”. Along with extra vocal tracks the band were using a large amount ...

... ...is represented here on the Greatest Hits package with three entries, ‘Rip Her To Shreds’, ‘X-Offender’ and ‘In The Flesh’. ‘Rip Her To Shreds’ is a wonderfully chaotic, violent tale of jealousy and cruelty complete with all sorts of memories from modern popular culture such as comic books, King Kong and Brenda Starr. An exercise in high trash, it cuts the target of Harry’s venom to pieces simply for the way she looks. However, the drama and nastiness ...
