Advantages: 8 beautifully crafted tracks, emotionally moving Disadvantages: None at all
What an intriguing, engrossing, delightful set of songs. As Sigur Ros slip more and more in to the musical mainstream, it often pays to look at the back catalogue to see the true roots of a band. With Sigur Ros, this is less a good idea and more a necessity.
Whatever you want to call it (The Brackets album, The Untitled Album, or simply '( )'), this album is utterly sublime. I've often listened to this thinking that no words could describe the music ... ...so good when reviewing the album! But I'll give it a go.
'( )', as I shall refer to it from now on, is more an experience than just a set of tracks. From what I've heard by them, it is the best album Sigur Ros have produced. Twice the album 'Takk' is anyway. At 8 tracks, it falls short of the usual number of tracks on their other albums, but the level of quality within these 8 songs more than makes up for their quantitive value.
'( )' is an appropriate ...

Advantages: Live Performances. Disadvantages: Rock Inaction.
...it. 'May Nothing But Happiness Come Through Your Door' definitely has a good tune bursting to come out and it is hard to knock it because in a live environment it is explosive. It's just in the studio it sounds a little lame and far too long in stretching to over 8 minutes. All hope is not lost though as Mogwai definitely have something that might one-day spawn beauty. I even find myself biting my lip writing these words, as I really wanted to like ...
Advantages: Over 60% Of The Album. Disadvantages: The Fillers.
Don't know if I can cope with Mogwai's new found minimalist approach. Miserabilist I can handle because it frequently produces flashes of sonic genius but a slowed down Mogwai doesn't make sense. Their last album 'Come On Die Young' left me cold and after listening to 'Rock Action' at least 10 times I'm afraid the harsh winter continues unabated. You can only blame Mogwai for this. Compare the majesty of their early motives, debut 'Young Team' and ... ...and you see a band going all introspective. There are still some savagely beautiful tunes on offer but the whole thing just doesn't do enough to hugely enthuse. The first obvious mistake you spot is that 2 of the tracks out of the measly total of 8 are nothing short of bum fluff. 'O I Sleep' settles back on its backward looping laurels while Braithwaite crones in a meaningless pattern. It last for 50 seconds and should have never left the studio ...
Mr Beast, this album is as troublesome as the beast himself, and at the same time without trouble at all. These guys are musically talented, genius' if you will. From their initial album, "Mogwai Young Team" the band have gone from strength to strength. The music seems much more crisp, each part being more distinguishable than in their previous work. A greater lyrical content, in my opinion, adds volumes to this album. Travel Is Dangerous being a ... ...a russian submarine that sank with the crew onboard. This song is dramatic, and speaks volumes to the listener, almost worth buying for that one masterpiece.
Songs that may have been downrated in previous albums such as Friend of the Night, have that extra something, a certain magic about them, the album just seems to fit with them being there. Definate purchase, amazing. ...

...This is a greatest hits album from a band who I have up there as one of the master bands of Rock and Roll music. I am sure some of this bands songs have appeared on movies as soundtracks. In addition the main reason I bought this album is because they included the song you better you bet as track number 16 as well as the classic song 'who are you'.
Largely because of these two classic tracks I bought the album as I wanted to listen to other tracks ... ...songs all of which were greatest hits by the Who. I will try to describe and detail as best as I can on a track by track basis.

Track 1: I can't explain: This perhaps is an interesting song, as it starts off in a punchy and forceful way on the guitar as well as having nice to hear lyrics. The song provided me with a pleasant mood to hear other songs on the list. Overall I find this a really great track that really ...
