The Alternative To Love? Great music!

Advantages: Consistently good songs, something likeable about every track
Disadvantages: Some lazy lyric-writing, hard to associate some tracks with their titles

...point I'm making is 'The Alternative To Love' is a record you can really enjoy listening to. There's a touching, earnest simplicity to the lyrics which adds something really nice to the music behind them, even if at first they seem a little...lazy. Album highlights include the aforementioned single, its follow-up 'Cold Hands (Warm Heart)' and 'What I'm Lookin For'. However, it's tricky to find a particularly weak song on the album as a whole. Surprisingly unknown to so many

"When these memories fade....."

Advantages: A splendid, old-style pop album
Disadvantages: None. Not in my eyes, anyway

We live in revisionist times. The term "r 'n' b" seems to have been wrenched away from multiple generations of venerable African-American combos permutating vocals, horns, guitar and piano; these days to serve the needs of an army of computerised-backbeat-supported Beyonce clones. Something special

Advantages: Simply brilliant rock/pop crossover
Disadvantages: Lyrically too adventurous for some
