Don't you dare touch my picture disc Baby!
Advantages: Classical Disadvantages: Wish there were more classics like this
...review on this classic.....
Dare was given to the world by Human League (HL), please do not stop reading this... There is more to HL than 'don't you want me' and two sexy women prancing around in the snow!
So let us begin......
Dare should not need much of an introduction as I expect if you're reading this you are fully aware of what a Mega Album this was and still is. Dare is a joy in itself as well as a statement of the 80s. The band not only ... ...disco.
With HL and Dare my world came alive with music full of Bass and electronic weird noises. Whilst PO's voice is not the best in the world it suits the tones and vibes contained on the Vinyl within my bedroom.

Track Listing:

Better but still no cigar
Advantages: Some very strong tracks Disadvantages: Several duffers
...with their second Virgin album, Travelogue in May 1980. It was better than the previous offering, but it wa sby no means earth shattering and didn’t really move them forward in any meaningful way. It included some catchy numbers, most notably Crow And A Baby, with its “A crow and a baby had an affair, the result was a baby” refrain.
But this was all standard synth band stuff and the band were clearly not doing themselves justice. They split in two ... ...Oakey remained behind with projectionist Adrian Wright, the name Human League and his haircut and was never to be quite the same again.
Travelogue is an okay album, but nothing special and it was not until after the split that any of the members put out any decent albums. ...

Reproduction (Re-Mastered) The Human League
Advantages: interesting very very interesting Disadvantages: too "interesting" in places
If i could start by saying thet the babies being stamped on by anonymous stilletoes on the front cover are not real ones ,but it does grab your visual attention ,and if you are open minded enough to allow a band its "early period"then "Reproduction"can be a very rewarding experience ,there is little in the way of hits or even pop,but if curiosity gets the better of you after glancing at the cover then buy a ticket and jump on .
This is the sound ... ...1978,at this point The Human League consisted of four blokes ,a couple of synthsisers and a slide projector and a warehouse load of ideas and concepts, none of them remotely linked to each other ,and giving the overall effect of a band not playing what they wanted but what they could manage ,and thats where the magic starts .
Opening track "Almost Medieval" comes crashing in with chaotic drum machines and a synth set to "organ"and a repetitive chorus ...

Advantages: Meoldies Disadvantages: Bland and twee
...with a masterpiece album - Architecture and Morality - in 1981, perhaps the most exquisitely lush study in nostalgia ever released by a rock band. The album yielded the atmospheric hits Souvenir, Joan Of Arc and Maid Of orleans (The Waltz Joan Of Arc), singles which made number 3, 4 and 5 respectively in the UK charts. Lyrically, their obsession seemed to be with the past; when on the road, the two had a penchant for visiting museums and castles.

Formulaic
Advantages: Some good stuff Disadvantages: Too many retreads
...These - the album The Pleasure Principle and the single Cars - were ready for early autumn release, and soon topped the UK album and singles charts. By that time, his hair was jet black and the records were issue under his own name; otherwise little had changed. Numan emphasised the stark, futuristic aspects by giving all the tracks one word titles (Airlane, Complex, Metal, Films, Observer).
Numan was a potent phenomenon. Harsh and simplistic though ... ...its own. His image was derived primarily from Bowie, his music from Kraftwerk, Ultravox and Eno, while a smattering of science fiction completed the persona.
By the time of The Pleasure Principle, Numan was starting to repeat the feats achieved on Replicas, but was clearly dropping into formula. ...
