Advantages: brought back my salad days, before maccy ds and poll tax riots Disadvantages: only one CD
Being of a certain vintage, I remember that one of the theme tunes of my youth was Freebird. At any party or pub evening normal loon-clad hippy types would be transformed into cavorting idiots when the opening organ chords of this great rock anthem burst forth from the juke box (Yes we did have electricity in those days) and the ensuing air-guitar playing rumpus would often cause the vinyl to jump. In fact I remember talking to the juke box engineer ... ...all the pubs that had Freebird on the selection had distinctive wear marks on the keys that corresponded to this choice.
When you remember that all this took place at least 18 years before the first CD hit the shops you will appreciate how well this band has stood the test of time, anyone who gets nostalgic for 12 inch vinyl should be taken back in time to the days when an expensive new LP could be ruined by one clumsy move from a hippy pissed on ...
Advantages: Great music, guitars Disadvantages: death of bassists.
...on dooyoo and realised that Vicious Cycle was not listed so I requested it as I decided to follow up my review of The Last Rebel with this album. Guitarist Gary Rossington and keyboardist Billy Powell might be the only founding members left in this incarnation of Lynyrd Skynyrd but along with ex members of Blackfoot (Ricky Medlocke) and the Outlaws (Hughie Thomasson they keep the spirit and music of Lynyrd Skynyrd going. **Vicious Cycle** Vicious ... ...**Overall** Vicious Cycle has material that is as good as anything Lynyrd Skynyrd have done, how many bands can say that stuff they do now is as good as stuff they did back in the seventies. This is one of the best albums of 2003 and shows they still have it. If you liked the early Lynyrd Skynyrd then give this a go and you should not be dissapointed. I certainly wasnt. A fine album. I can't wait for the new album out this year. *Ean Evans the replacement ...
Advantages: Classic Kiss sound, Great Extras, Completely Re-recorded classics, DVD Disadvantages: DVD not very long
When Kiss Frontman Paul Stanley promised the best KISS album in decades, we were all a little sceptial to say the least. Could KISS really produce an album as good as their earlier 70s work? Well the moment finally came and boy was his promise correct!
The first track on the album happens to be the first single released, "Modern Day Delilah" and with the hard drums, rocking guitar solos and Pauls high pitched vocals, there is no doubt this is KISS, ... ...Animal" and in my opinion the new kiss anthem "Stand", each one sounding differant but still providing a great classic Kiss sound.
"When Lightning Strikes" is new KISS guitarist Thommy Thayers vocal debut and he does a great job, sounding like a mix between Paul & Gene, and rocking a great tune.
Drummer Eric Singer also has a Vocal track on the album entitled "All for the Glory" again this is definately an anthem that was made for the live shows.

After the lads year off, they promised that they were coming back with their best album yet, so i was really expecting a very high quality album - i am certainly by no means disappointed! It is mostly ballads (which Westlife are renowned for - though they have finally decided to drop the stools!) but their are a few upbeat tracks (The boys certainly do these justice too!)
What makes this album another stand out one for me, ...
Advantages: A great collection of some of the bands best material Disadvantages: Everyone will have an opinion on tracks that could have made it
...the release of the first Greatest Hits collection from the Foo Fighters. Since the split of Nirvana, Dave Grohl has taken on many projects but the Foo Fighters are perhaps the one he will be most remembered for. Rather than being an end for the band thankfully this greatest hits collection is just satisfying part of their record deal and the band will be back recording new material in the future. One look at the track listing shows that they have ... ...rarity when it comes to greatest hit albums as normally there are a few dodgy choices but this seems to be the best showcase of what the band are all about. Former in 1994 after the death of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, the Foo Fighters have grown from a solo project by front man Dave Grohl to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world. It's been quite a journey with various different styles and approaches to each album but this greatest ...
