Advantages: Magnificent vocals, great guitar power. Disadvantages: Instrumentally unexciting and unadventurous.
'Deadly Passions' is the second studio album from the Kentucky based rock band that is Hydrogyn. The band was formed in 2003 and as well as having released two studio albums the band has released a live album also. The band is fronted by Julie Westlake and it's therefore her vocal tone which hits you throughout this album; she has a great voice and puts an awful lot of power behind it in order to belt out the ten tracks of this album. The guitar ... ...the instrumental side of things is still quite pleasant to listen to here.
The album gets off to an explosive beginning with opening number 'Rejection', the track possesses a fast tempo and really kicks the album off with great power. Hyrogyn here storms through the track and executes it absolutely excellently. The vocals are brilliant and the guitar work also is really quite interesting to listen to. Although the guitar riffs are decent enough ...

Advantages: Counting Crows at their best Disadvantages: Sometimes too slow
It doesnt matter that this album was released years ago, because this is by far one of the best of Counting Crows. I have owned this Cd for years and it is always one i'll go back to. Lyrically it is briliant, the tracks are catchy and yet mellow and easy listening and you can not get enough of Adam Duritz' haunting voice. This is definately a Cd for a cold winters day. Personally my favourite track is Raining in Baltimore, as it has brilliant emotional ...

Advantages: Neither overblown, nor underdone - done in a rush, but just right... Disadvantages: Short, some parts overrepetitiveness betrays a wish to simply fill vinyl space.
And now for someone more concise!
"Gift" (in English, 'a present'; in German, 'poison'...) was a hastily cobbled album by Eldritch and some cohorts in order to beat the renegade Sisters Of Mercy around Craig Adams & Wayne Hussey (then under a court injuction after doing several gigs as the Sisters Of Mercy in breach of the agreement with Eldritch & Marx - the groups founders - not to use the name again) from using a variant of the name instead (as ... ...just so happened to be a nickname for Sisters of Mercy fans.
So much for titles & office politics. What about the music?
This was an album done not only with legal problems attached to it, but physical - Eldritch having wrecked his B-Movie Soviet spy voice with vodka & cigarettes, and his body with amphetamines. In came both James Ray and Lucas Fox to add vocal support to some tracks (though even that's a matter for dispute...)
With that in mind, ...

Advantages: brilliant guitar player, secret song at the end Disadvantages: she needs to bring another album out!
I love this album!
I got this album bought for me as a birthday present and ungratefully discarded it at the bottom of a drawer for some strange reason. I then heard one of her songs "this is the life" play on radio one and immedietely loved it! i played the whole album 4 times that night because it was so good!
among the content are "mr rock and roll" which, with the title of the album, is the most recognisable. My favourite however has to be ... ...written adressing subjects she feels strongly about such as "youth of today" or subjects she enjoys to write about, like the song written on Jake Gyllenhaal called "LA".
This album is well worth a listen and i would recommend it to all ages and all types of music lovers. ...
