Advantages: Polished and meaningful electronic pop Disadvantages: Not disposable enough for some, not sophisticated enough for others
"Ray Of Light" is the 7th album by Madonna and was released in 1998. It won 4 Grammy Awards, marked a change in musical style and helped revive the Material Girl's career. The musical style is mainly electronic with production work by William Orbit; digital sounding effects and interesting samples are usually present in the background of the tracks. The lyrics are introspective dealing with topics such as: love for her daughter, new beginnings, the ... ...varied with a few up tempo dance tracks; most are mid-tempo tunes and the last track "Mer Girl" has a complete absence of any beat at all. I enjoy the reflective and meaningful lyrics present in the album that show a more intimate side of Madonna, although they are never going to win any awards. Overall the tracks are fairly consistent, melodic and contain good production by William Orbit. The album sleeve contains the track lyrics, which is an additional ...
Advantages: funky party album Disadvantages: some people don't understand the joke
This is the first beck album that i bought and it made me want to go back and buy all his previous stuff. Yep it's that good.
Beck appears to be able to go in any musical direction and this time he's aiming for some funk, with some R&B, rap and some good old rock along with some other stuff. This is a great party album and is great to dance to with friends or jump about in your bedroom to. The lyrics (as usual for beck) are nothing like the usual ... ...from this album are Nicotine & Gravy, Milk & Honey and Debra.
I think that the concepts of these songs if completely misunderstood could make some people dislike the album. A lot of it is just making fun of people around beck (Hollywood Freaks is a good example) now that his life has changed since he first started out as a musician. A least that's what i think, i don't think that anyone can fully understand beck's lyrics but i think that everyone ...
...of their finest albums - Driving to Damascus.
Sporting their original line-up (therefore with ace drummer Mark Brzezicki) they have produced an album full of their trademark guitar riffs and bluesy ballads. Lead singer Stuart Adamson has again been the driving force behind the song writing, even collaborating on one song, Something Else, with Ray Davies of The Kinks.
There is a limited edition in the shops with two extra tracks but minus a booklet ... ...had BBC airplay and made it into the charts.
As anyone who has ever been to a BC concert will know that they are awesome live, so it is sad to hear that their last concert, in Glasgow's Barrowlands on May 31 (I was there and it was rocking!) will be their last. Please support the band by buying the album and lets persuade them out of retirement sooner rather than later. ...
Advantages: Nice vocals, interesting turn for Oasis Disadvantages: Lyrics, couple of duffers.
In 'Fucking In The Bushes' a sample garnished, stone fisted instrumental Oasis open the album with the different sound critics have been nagging at after 1997's Be Here Now treaded familiar ground for a carpet-thinning 70 minutes. A stomping beat, snarling riffs and a chorus of spiraling guitar licks over a spoken 'Children running around naked fucking the bushes' sample lifted from some dusty old film mark this as one off Oasis' most original ... ...brings an immediate return to the Gallagher's Beatle emulating ways. However this a pretty good shot at it; a head-nodding groove in the baseline rescues the predictable chord progressions. Liam's vocals on this track are amazing, not because of any technical elegance but because they grind over this track like an overdriven guitar, giving the song a power that a Liam-less band could not achieve.
'Who Feels Love?' is a disappointing entry, an ...
