This is the first album I ever heard and bought of Ryan Adams who I previously just dismissed as I guy who had a similar name to Bryan Adams (who I'm a big fan of). I absolutely got hooked on this album and its opened up a whole world of Ryan Adams albums (the guys a work-a-holic and has a lot of albums) as well as the albums he recorded with former band Whiskey Town.
This is the album I recommend to people who want to listen to him who are essentially rock fans and are unsure of him as alot of his other albums are more folk/country/alt/singer-songwriterish and so maybe not the best for them. This rock n roll album is truely exceptional and shows his complete and utter talent. Its also a kind of grunge sound in places which I love in being a Nirvana fan but the whole album is truly awesome.
For those of you who like folk/songwriterish songs and love artists like Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, Elliott Smith and Bob Dylan then you'll love Ryan Adams but maybe start with '29' 'Cold Roses' or 'Jacksonville City Nights'. Or even Whiskey Town's 'Pneumonia' which I fantastic!!
Favorite tracks: I was gonna list my favorite tracks on the album but realized I was just selecting the whole album so just listen to it all. BTW 'Do Miss America' features that guy from Green Day (Billie Joe Armstrong).
The full track listings for the album are as follows:
1) This Is It 2) Shallow 3) 1974 4) Wish You Were Here 5) So Alive 6) Luminol 7) Burning The Photographs 8) She's Lost Total Control 9) Note To Self: Don't Die 10) Rock N Roll 11) Anybody Wanna Take Me Home 12) Do Miss America 13) Boys 14) The Drugs Not Working 15) Hypnotixed *Bonus Track*
