Advantages: Superb music by the first great female.rock.band to go mainstream. Disadvantages: No lyrics. Band members don't get a penny from this anthology.
the last holdouts, and a final effort of a much-changed band still sporting the 'Fanny' label would come out not from Reprise Records, but from Casablanca. The supreme irony for Fanny is that the single 'Butter Boy' from 'Rock 'N' RollSurvivors' (1975) would be Fanny's highest-ranking chart-maker of all. The times, in my view, grew too weird for the direction (or lack of it) that the band took, to say the least. I recall few memorable tunes from that album, and much has been written on the discomfiting mix of June's substitute and lead guitar player Patti Quatro (Suzi's older sister) with the rest of the Fanny members at that time. Alice had decided to leave when Patti came on board. 'Rock 'N' RollSurvivors' would be the last gasp of the group that went by the name of 'Fanny.' And despite 'Butter Boy''s chart success, there was no more band ...
Advantages: Great actors and characters, enjoyable, great music Disadvantages: It loses its way sometimes, a bit long
!
This isn't a laugh a minute film and I didn't find myself rolling on the floor with laughter. However, the humour is gentle and silly and it did make me smile an awful lot. The screenplay is good, but perhaps not as good as I know Richard Curtis can be; it is really left to the actors to behave in such a way that they create the laughs. I was impressed by Philip Seymour Hoffman who is generally known for his more serious roles - he really showed his versatility here by having great comic timing. Gentle teasing of Carl was also a cause of a lot of the humour - being a virgin who is thwarted at every possible sexual opportunity, his predicament is really quite funny at times, although the men do genuinely try to help him most of the time. There is a rating of 15 on the film, for some sex, plenty of sexual innuendo and swearing, although it ...
Advantages: Great head banging action to be had! Disadvantages: Some tracks a bit repetitive
Being a supporter of the band HIM - and back in the day a little bit of an obsessive fan, it must be said - I went to see them live as a late birthday present.
Their guitarist, dread locked and extremely thin, Mikko Lindstrom, to me, stole the show; his edgy, passionate guitar riffs simply made the performance and kept the fans driven all night long.
Upon my return from my live experience, I began to get more interested in the band, learning about their inspirations and stories from life on the road.
Then, I heard about a HIM side project called 'Daniel Lioneye', the band's 'sleaze rock' record.
Curious, I soon got the album. Lets just say I was shocked at what I was hearing...
Track number one 'The King of Rock 'N Roll' I recognised as the opening theme tune to cult MTV show 'Viva La Bam'. The raunchy electric guitar ...
