Advantages: Great Modern Tango music Disadvantages: Only 10 Songs
...Intro: I bought this in Buenos Aires after hearing it played in a shop. The Gotan project cleverly uses a mixture of traditional instruments such as the violin and banadeon to create tango sounds mixted in with both electronica and modern beats to offer a new take on tango music.
Background:
Initiated by Philippe Cohen Solal and Edouardo Makaroff in 1999, with Christoph H Muller joining immediately, Gotan Project saw the light of day with the release of their first 10 inch in February 2000 on Ya Basta!, Solal's label.
The project which gathers on record, as well as on stage, top Argentinean musicians exiled in Paris, is experiencing an incredible international success with the release of their first album "LaRevancha Del Tango". To date, nearly 1 000 000 records have been sold in the whole world . Their current live tour is taking them...

Advantages: a great second album from the Argentinian tango-ists Disadvantages: none
...Gotan Project's first album 'Le Revancha del Tango' took a couple of listens to grow on me. When I heard Lunatico playing, I recognised the sound, although it wasn't a track I'd heard before. After buying the album, I found Lunatico a lot easier to get into then Revancha del Tango, with a more lighthearted feel to it.
It is certainly true that they have managed to go in a different direction then that which they took with Revancha del Tango. Their stated aim in making this album was to go forward by returning to the roots of tango, I haven't heard much tango music, so I can't compare, but they have certainly made another classic.
The stand out track on this album for me was 'Mi Confession' featuring Argentinian rapper Koxmoz.
Overall the album features more collaborations and a a wider mix of flavours then Revancha del Tango...

Advantages: Great cd, a little bit different Disadvantages: Some weak songs, a bit like Eurovision
...'t be far out of place on the Eurovision song contest!

9. Poem To A Horse
An odd song about a man who is in love with himself - trying to be close to him is as pointless as reading poems to a horse.
"I'll leave again 'cause I've been waiting in vain
But you're so in love with yourself
If I say my heart is sore
Sounds like a cheap metaphor
So I won't repeat it no more"
This isn't one of my favourite songs on the CD but anyone who has experienced unrequited love can relate to it.

10. Que Me Quedes Tú (If You Stay With Me)
A slower ballad in Spanish.
"Pero que me quedes tú y me quede tu abrazo
Y el beso que inventas cada dia
Y que me quede aqui despues del ocaso
Para siempre tu melancholia
Porque yo si que dependo de ti
Y si me quedas tu
Me queda la vida"
"But if you stay with me and your hug stays with me...
