Ronnie Scott's Forty Five - Various Artists

Advantages: A good combination of your typicall hip-hop, however with a more chilled approach to listeners
Disadvantages: If you like gangsta rap, e.g. 50 Cent, Ice Cube, etc... then this might not be the best for you

...Having bought this CD, my expectations were high. However upon listening it didnt turn out to be that good. Fair enough, there are some good tracks. The ones I thought wre worth listening are 1, 2, 5 and 14 I would particularly advise this CD to those who are not fans of constant swearing and hardcore gangsta lyrics. This is a more chilled out CD that you could enjoy anytime really. This of course does not mean that if you like hardcore rap, you shouldnt buy this. Personally I tend to buy most of new hip-hop CD's because I enjoy listening to a wide variety of tracks, as this tends to enhance your knowledge of artists, songs, etc... With many big names on the tracks, e.g. Ja Rule, Ashanti this is a good CD for new listeners of Hip-Hop, as this will give you an opportunity to listen to multiple artrist and allow you do determine your... Advantages: Great tracks by a great artist played by great musicians.
Disadvantages: None.

...Curtis mayfield has to be one of soul's greats. he has a sensitivity that can be felt in his timing and of course his lyrics. The Ronnie Scotts album is a great one for hearing this because of the quality of the musicians Mayfield has gathered and the superb tightness of the band. He plays a nember of Curtis classics (from songs from Superfly, Move on Up etc)but its great to hear the talent of the live musicians taking them to new hights. The purcussion in the track Superfly is nothing short of superb and Lobrian Scott's base playing is an inspiration. Plus, most unusually for a live album, the audience actually manage to clap in time and sing in tune! Testimony to the magical atmosphere that must have been created that night.... Read review

Advantages: CONTAINS ALL SONGS FROM THE FILM
Disadvantages: WEAK BONUS TRACK

...If you enjoyed the film you'll love the CD. If you haven't seen the film and you're age 5 to 14 you'll probably still love it. It has all the main songs from the film, including both versions of You are the Music in Me by Troy & Gariella and Sharpay. The bonus track is weird but the 10 other songs justified the cost of the CD without worring about the bonus track. Very popular with all the girls at my daughters' primary school but unsure if it is as popular with older children. Despite that i have to admit that it is also very popular with their forty-two year old mother! An ideal Christmas present or stocking filler if they haven't got it already.... Read review
