My wife, who in her teenage years was a fan of the Monkees and Beach Boys, persuaded me to ignore my boy-band prejudices and buy her this for Christmas - she has duly commandered it for use in the car, to relieve the boredom of travel to work.
It is actually very good, with definite echoes of her idols, plus pre-Rubber Soul Beatles (one track in particular makes me want to break into a chorus of Help!). Hugely catchy songs, silly young-love lyrics, superb sound quality and production, shared out between Hugh Padgham, for polish, and Craig Harday, for as much rawness as a big label contract probably allows. And it only runs for 41 minutes, so it doesn't outstay its welcome.
I know it's supposed to be aimed at the younger record buyer, but it certainly appeals to some grumpy old men (and women) too.
