‘Room Service’ - Roxette

Roxette are a Swedish pop group comprising of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle ,who were formed in 1985 . Per Gessle is the main source of writing material , with Marie Fredriksson being the more prominent of the vocals - that said Per Gessle can really sing too.

Their first album ‘Pearls Of Passion’ was released way back in 1986 , a whopping 15 years ago , an eon for pop bands , and to this day they are still going strong.This album is their latest , and was released this year .

Once again as with all Roxette releases , you get a decent inlay, this time a sixteen sided booklet , this time on glossy paper ( real flash ). The pages contain the song lyrics / credits ,intermingled with recent photographs of the pair.

And the song titles ( my thoughts on each follow ) :

1) ‘Real Sugar’ -

what an introduction , true Roxette rock , with a tub thumping beat.

2) ‘The Centre Of My Heart’ -

the highlight of the album , snazzy , catchy , you'll love this one. The chorus 1st is really snazzy , and completely different to the main feel , but works really well .

3) ‘Milk & Toast & Honey’ -

the 1st single taken off the album , a ballad meets pop. Buy the cd single of this , as it has a remixed version which I feel is far superior.

4) ‘Jefferson’ -

Roxette at their best , real hip . You just can't help singing to lyrics like this : 'Jefferson was always out of luck / I remember when we both grew up / Jefferson go hit by a westbounndtruck / I guess that didn't make him look like a million bucks / ...' . Worth buying the album just for this and track 2) .

5) ‘Little Girl’ -

the weakest track ( unusual for Roxette , it was penned by Marie Fredriksson ), slow ballad , but growing on me slowly . Sadly Marie's style of singing just isn't suited to this song , despite the evident Roxette treatment.

6) ‘Looking For June’ -

back to the foot stomping catchy stuff . Rich in both lyrics and percussion

7) ‘Bringing Me Down To My Knees’ -

another rock ballad Roxy are famous for.One that lovers all over the world can relate to.

8) ‘Make My Head Go Pop’ -

fast and furious . Upbeat , great keyboards .One that teenagers would buy.

9) ‘Try’ ( just a little bit harder )’ -

1/2 decent smauldering ballad , destined for single release . For those ever let down by someone , this is for you .

10) ‘Fool’ - quick tempo ,

60’s feel pop / rock , not normally associated with Roxy , but nether-the-less , it works well .

11) ‘It Takes You No Time To Get Here’ -

another sing to ballad , with mellow tempo . A song for today .

12) ‘My World , My Love , My Life’ -

a great end track , soft rock , synonymous with Roxy .

Overall a good album , but not as outstanding as the likes of 'Tourism' , with a great range of music , most of which you just can’t help singing to or finger drumming to on the nearest piece of furniture .
Twelve tracks make this a good value for money investment . It may not win over many new fans , but the older Roxetters will simple love it .
